GPS shoes. (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070209/ap_on_hi_te/gps_sneaker)

Hansel and Gretel could have used these. At $350 a pair (plus $20/month monitoring), and considering most kids I know go through shoes at least once a year, I don't see a very big market here. Families with enough money to spend on this, probably have their little Lord Fauntleroy chauffeured where ever he goes anyhow. Neat gadget though.

"If (parents) can get their kids to wear them, then certainly there is a marketplace. But I think the biggest challenge is overcoming ... the cool marketplace,"

Yup -- he'd be better off licensing the technology to Nike et al rather than trying to launch his own brand which is bound to get the "kiss of death" from trendy kids.

Wonder if they work after you walk through a swamp.

Whenever I end up lost I always seem to have soaked feet too...

It strikes me that he'd have more success just selling a GPS module that you could somehow attach to normal shoes, rather than the device and the shoes together.

And I guess for the 16 year old we can expect chastity belts with GPS and an alarm system if tampered with?

....

I can see more use if the modules could be attached to any clothing or bag... (re)

They'd be handy for socks too. The age old mystery of what happens to the missing sock would finally be solved.

After watching American Pie... I think I don't want to solve that mystery...

But surely everyone knows the socks run off with the missing ball point pens?

Anyway, the world has evidently moved on a lot since I was allowed to run off to play all day on the salt marshes of North Kent. Never did me any harm. Four of my schoolfriends drowned in the mud*, yes, but it never did ME any harm.

* This is not true. But looking back, I don't know why. maybe there is a god of small boys?
