Playing a Russian campaign(lite mod), everything was going normally. I was at war with Poland & hungary when I got the successful crusade message come up, the Polish had taken Jerusalem. Next turn the usual happens Poland gets peace with Egypt. I noticed that the Polish AI had stopped sending armies at me & over the course of about 10 turns I took all their provinces except Krakow. Krakow had 2 full stacks near it that didn't move at all. Meanwhile they lost Jerusalem to rebels(probably the fact they weren't even garrissoning it & it had 40% hersey). So the Polish army begins marching back from the holy lands 1 full stack & 2 bits of stacks. Their army in europe didn't do anything, I also noticed that they weren't using their spy's or priests either.
Some turns later I was at war with the HRE & the same thing happened, they had a successful crusade to Toulouse & then just stopped doing anything. The funny thing was when they lost Toulouse to the spainish all their priests jumped out of their cities. I see from time to time ships sitting in the one place for many turns & they always have diplomats onboard. So is anyone else experiencing a slumbering AI?

Samne thing happened to me. Playing a Byzantine long campaign on H/H I was at war with HRE and my spies spotted 3 full stacks. I decide to send my siegeing army over and see what happens. I take all 4 cities across a number of turns and their full stacks just sit there at the edge of their borders doing nothing.:inquisitive:
Using toggle_fow i've noticed the same thing with the danes (still in starting province), english, scots and others in campaigns both pre- and post-patch.

Even worse, i had one campaign where noone declared war and everyone just sat around for 75 turns as i took over the world

I guess i've ben lucky with my HRE campaign, as everyone has attacked me. No slumbering AI for me. :thumbsup:
Lol. There's another thread complaining that rivals attack too often and unreasonably. One side sez too little, another side sez too much. Lol....XD
Me, I'd like a balance between both. Ample time to build up with a few surprise attacks occasionally.

I'm not saying anything about the agressiveness of the AI, what I am saying is that after a successful crusade/jihad where the AI gets a province that is not near their other territory the AI seems to fall asleep.
I just had it happen again where Venice had a successful crusade to Jerusalem(i'm milan) now all their stacks do nothing even though I have left northern Italy very lightly defended. I've only seen 1 of their strategic pieces moving about. They have 3 full stacks around Ragusa doing nothing but I have noticed their ships moving about.

get ultimate AI mod, its great
maybe its cuz the mod increases movement so much, the ai just seems to do more, as it doesnt get confused while moving to where it wanted to when it made its initial calculation

I don't know for battles if it is a different trigger. I went on a Crusade to Antioch held by Rebels as the Scots. The Poles were there 4 turns prior and sat there. I besieged and battled which they were the reinforcements. They only had a few missile calvary around the walls the rest of force sat there out on the hill!!???
As for DOW almost every country is fighting someone. I am currently playing the LTC mod.
The Ultimate AI was also very good.

well the byzantines dont do anything either does egypt or the turks, the HRE always get destroyed and Franse barely makes it to gunpowder. this has been the results of five campaigns its all the same:wall:
I saw something similar with the Scots in my campaign to unify the Isle as England. They started off aggressive, hitting York and maneuvering at Dublin, then when I wiped out their armies and had them blockaded, they went all passive. They were so passive they would just stand on a hill under withering longbow fire from 10 units until I ran out of arrows.
But they were totally broke. Have you guys checked diplomacy to see if the disfunctional empires have any cash? It may be a bug related to them being broke. Maybe some early check in the AI short-circuits if the faction can't spend any money at all.
Maneuvering and figting back wouldn't have affected the outcome much in my current campaign, but would have upped the price of victory. I'm a few turns from forcing the last holdouts in Inverness to sally, assuming the Pope keeps dozing nicely. Haven't heard a peep from him so far, but then he does like me a lot. :2thumbsup:

What difficulty are you guys playing at? They are a lot more active on very hard, than on medium.
One more thing, battle AI has little or nothing to do with the campaign AI. That armies are passive in battle when they are under heavy fire is a battle AI thingy, it has nothing to do with the campaign AI being passive.

That SEEMS like it would be the case, but do we know that? In my situation both happened at about the same time (wasn't paying close attention, but know when Scotland started doing nothing strategically, they also suddenly went mostly passive in battle.) Can't say I have lot of data though.
I'm on M/M still. I prefer stonger AI to the "load them up with resouorces" style balancing... but I'll move to VH/H or H/H eventally. If I don't go back to RTW or MTW. Waiting to see what the patch brings. So far I can't say I'm very impressed with this one.

Well, from my experience, a passive battle AI has nothing to do with the campaign AI. I've never had a passive scotland campaign AI, but a lot of passive battle AI. Can't say I've ever encountered a passive AI like you are describing...(VH/VH).
At least that's my experience. Of course, it could be a (random) bug affecting the campaign AI and then another bug from that affecting the battle AI. Or it could be something completely else. No real way of finding that out really...

i play everything on hard and i say very little change(i use the toggle fog of war)
