Saw this and I see lots of abuses and not too clear a benefit…but maybe I am just being paranoid.

The research builds on a series of recent studies in which brain imaging has been used to identify tell-tale activity linked to lying, violent behaviour and racial prejudice.

The use of brain scanners to judge whether people are likely to commit crimes is a contentious issue that society should tackle now, according to Prof Haynes. "We see the danger that this might become compulsory one day, but we have to be aware that if we prohibit it, we are also denying people who aren't going to commit any crime the possibility of proving their innocence."

 what the heck does that mean?

I remember watching a program on tv showing research being developed by the Brits on this. I don't believe any circumstantial evidence that this may point to, alone, will ever be used to convict a person of a crime. However, it will aid criminal interrogators in assessing whether a "person of interest" may be less than truthful about the questions being asked, helping them to eliminate most likely innocent suspects, and focus their attention on those that are not telling the whole truth about something. It is just another tool for investigation, in this use.

Cool, a lie detecter that scans the brain. The only thing I'm worried about is the recent interest in the UK about proactive law enforcement.

Very reassuring, I don't think. Since when did the burden of proof rest on the accused?????

Since the media started reporting so closely on every investigation.

I can hardly wait for the prenatal version so that you can determine your child's political persuasion before birth.

I saw some where that the developer is opening a second facility in Victoria BC…look out Canada.

How long before Murdoch buys the franchise for the Justice Dept (or whatever it is they're splitting the Home Office into?) And does he get the peerage thrown in with it?
