View Full Version : Understanding Recruitment v0,8

Whilst I marvel at the EB's historically based recruitment setup, it does at times leave me groping in the dark for those elusive interesting units(please excuse my ignorance in this matter). I tried reading the thread on recruitment, but there's not much there for me.

As an example, at the moment I have taken a Roman Legion on a recruiting sortie(sort of like a press gang on a national level), out looking for those bad boys the Thracian Peltasts(I like the unit).

So I begin with trying to figure out where Thrace is(I have a rough idea, how I don't know). Upon right clicking on the map somewhere just south of the Getai's turf(I have a spy in the area), it assures me this is Thracian soil.

When I get my Legion there, I find I can recruit as mercs, the said unit, and they come with 2 experince points, so I must be in just the right spot.

I will be assaulting the village when I get home this evening, the thing is which govement building do I use?

From what I understand the lowest level of govement(4)building will most likely attract the fullest range of auxillary troops along with the auxillary barracks, and to what level will the auxillary barracks need to be made?
Or have I got this wrong and it's the normal barracks because they are not available as auxillary?

Adding to my confusion is, some of these varied elusive units can be recruited at only one or two settlements. Then are they regional or auxillary troops, and how up the Mic level they are. And if they are regional not auxillary, I am likely to build a Govement building which is to low. The other aspect is how elite are these varied units considered to be? Because if they are fairly elite I will need at least a govement2 building to get a level3-4 barracks?
Is there an easy way to tell who is auxillary and who isn't?

Will there ever be a guide as to what you need, to recruit what unit, and where? Or is there one that has escaped my attention?
Sounds like a huge long winded job though!

Thanks for any replies, and I hope my question doesn't seem to muddled!

Recruitment is greatly improved in .80 but still has some spots missing, but I think they did a lot to help it/ add more units for the patch thats coming soon. I know some people have been talking about make a guide, but right now I believe they're just focusing on getting the patch out as soon as possible.

I doubt that you can build the thracian peltests right now, something must be broken. As the Getae I couldn't get any thracian unit, just my own faction stuff, safe to say that if a similar faction can't get them then the Romans can't.

Hi,

From what I understand the lowest level of govement(4)building will most likely attract the fullest range of axillary troops along with the auxillary barracks, and to what level will the axillary barracks need to be made? I don't know the answer to that one, but I would believe that, they being a rather a low down unit, they would require something like a level two regional MIC. Level two MICs are buildable in any province anywhere so it doesn't really matter what government you select. They may however be just mercenaries, however, I am sorry to say that I have had no experience in this matter.

Is there an easy way to tell who is axillary and who isn't? There really is no real way of telling. The best way of telling is looking at the units armour and weapons and comparing it to that of your own solders. If it looks similar then it probably will be one of your own factional units rather than a regional unit. However this can not be very reliable, for example The Selucids cannot recruit Baktrian Royal Guard even though their armour is similar to their units.

I'm sorry I couldn't help you much, good luck and cheers!

Tracians actually count as regionals if I remember correctly from my own Getai campaign.

Rome can't recruit Thracian Peltasts, only Macedon and the Getai can.

No it's just that they can't recruit them in general.
