I have been playing as the People of Pontus and beating up on Rome. Rome must have had the Marius Event ( I can tell by the units they are sending at me.) I have noticed that for the past few turns my Generals no longer have the use of a javelin. This has made me change my attack. My question- is the normal for Pontas?. Does it have something to do with the Marius Event? When I check the description for my general it still shows a horse unit that uses a javelin. Any ideas?

Second smaller question- on one battle I had a chariot bow unit that was down to 3 chariots. I did not have time to send them to a city to be reinforced. I found that they had no option to shoot arrows in this battle. Is there a minimum size for bow/javelin units? This does not have anything to do with my first question ( I don’t think ) because my generals were at full or near full strength.

For the first question yes that's normal, when the Marius event happens all factions get the upgraded version of their bodyguard units for their generals. In pontus' case that means they lose their ranged ability.

They might not of had any bowmen left on the chariots.

Egypts upgraded generals (armoured cav) are less useful than their initial ones (heavy Archer chariots)

Thanks for replies.

So since my descriptions still shows javelin horse unit, how do I find out what my unit is?

Hi and welcome Mykawa,
All you have to do is right click on the general character and then click on the helmet on the left side of his scroll. If it says "Late", "Armoured" or "Cavalry" in the bodyguard unit's name then it is definitely a reformed General's Guard. This is also a useful way of checking if the Romans have had their reforms yet, if they have had their reforms then your bodyguard will have had their reforms. Good luck with your new general's guards, cheers!
