If your general or army or such, has a priest/card/bishop travelling with it, does that atleast decrease the chances the inquisitors will get you? Does it help if your piety is equal to or higher than the inquisitor? etc.

I'm not sure it directly helps, but indirectly I believe your general has a better chance to aquire traits that increaes piety?

Inquisitors seemed to be toned way town after the first patch. I haven't had any problems with them, although I do try to keep on the pope's good side. That probably helps more than anything.

I doubt it. In fact, inquisitors can burn your priest or cardinal directly.

It does, but inquisitors gain piety really fast--for successful denouncement and for just standing around. So even if your piety is equal or higher than the inquisitor, it wouldn't be for long.
