Over in the Throne Room, we've started a HRE Play-by-E-mail (PBM) game. We have about 10 active players at the moment, but could use a few more. Anyone here interested?

The idea of Total War PBM is basically simple: one player (in this case, "the Chancellor") plays part of a single player campaign and then passes on the savegame to another player, who plays a bit more.

To spice it up a little, we've added a few twists. The Chancellor is elected every 10 turns by all the players and all the players can vote on laws (edicts) to direct or constrain him. Furthermore, all players are represented by generals (avatars) in the game; if their general gets into a battle, they download the pre-battle savegame and fight the battle. We've divided the players into four noble Houses (Franconia, Austria, Bavaria and Swabia) to encourage some factional loyalties and conflicts. Players are encouraged to write up their battles in after-action reports, make in character speeches and try to role-play the vices and virtues of their avatar.

Right now we are about 20 turns into a game and have just gotten into a war with Milan. We don't have spare generals to provide as avatars, but should be picking up some soon. The kind of commitment involved from players is typically a matter of checking the relevant threads every few days or so to keep abreast of things, and fighting the odd battle on request. It's a fairly low intensity, but high frequency commitment, so is suitable for regular Orgahs looking for something to spice up their time here.

If you want to see examples of the battle reports, you can see them here:

And this is the thread where we debate things in character:

That would be great, :2thumbsup: - please post in the out of character thread, picking a House:

Things have just heated up a little further - we have been attacked by Venice, just as we took Milan. There is also a potential dilemma - do we continue attacking Milan, even if the Pope warns us off? A recent edict says we should, but in the circumstances, it would be rash to say the least.

Just a bump to say that we are now on our fourth interim session of the Diet - now would be a good time for any more players wanting to join the game. They can debate the future of the Empire and vote on laws etc. Adverts like this have attracted four new players in the last few days, but a few more are always welcome.

This sounds awesome; I did a few PBEMs for MTW a year or so ago. I won't be able to join up until early April, however, as I gave up all computer gaming for Lent. :help: When I get back, hopefully I'll have the game all patched up (dialup prevents me from getting the first patch, & so I'll need to have someone burn it for me; playing with Carl's fix right now), and hopefully this sort of thing will still be happening. Just curious: what difficulty levels are you playing on?

We chose VH battles and H campaign - the latter to try to stop the AI being too psychotic (we failed).

I'm glad you plan to join and there's no hurry - the game should still be running in early April. We are playing in a rather more extended way than the old MTW PBMs - the first campaign we played in this style lasted about 7 months! We are two months into this one and it is only 1136 AD (at default 1 turn = 2 years setting).

I would be interested in joining if no mods need to be installed (I like my own modded install :p )
For the purposes of the PBM though, I'm guessing I just need to remove the io switch to play.

I'd join but, its way to complicated it seems then traditional "Each person plays 10 turns or so" which turns me off to the idea, besides im into EB atm.
