You can bribe the pope by opening diplomacy with any papal states army or city and choosing to give money as a 'gift' (the small button to the left of the 'make offer' one in diplomacy)

You can see your ranking with the pope by opening up your faction rankings scroll (click on your faction shield in the bottom right of the screen) and clicking the tab called 'the pope'

The Papal States is the Pope's faction, it's the one that starts in rome.

p.s. try to avoid swearing, it's against forum rules, and I wouldn't want you tto end up in trouble with the mods.

Quick question can u bribe the pope or is that simply impossible because of the game?

If you mean can you Bribe the Pope as in the Genreal that represents the pope on the battlefeild, then no. You can't bribe a faction leader under any circumstances.

But you can get him on your good side by making gifts of money and property to him (or paying him tribute). That's very handy if you intend to be attacking other Catholic factions. Make an offer to give money to him, then click the little present in the lower left to turn it into a gift. Watch him smile upon you! :beam:

I usually gift the Pope tribute of 100 florins per turn for 20 turns or so. I've heard some people do it for 100 turns but I have yet to get him to accept it for so many turns. Anyway, it'll let you keep your faction in good standing with the Pope for a long time (depending on how long you set tribute for).

I use 100fl x100 turns and status with Pope on very hard is still always perfect or close to it, effectively negating him.

In fact I think it is so much a must do that it should be made much harder to curry favour with by gifts. I would suggest say 1000 florins needed or tied to the number of settlements/overall gross income.

Any strategy which becomes a must do, IMHO should be fixed if possible so it becomes a real strategy question again.

During my expansion phase of the game, my pope rating has gone up and down. It usually goes down when I exterminate settlements, and then back up when I eventually start building cathedrals and huge cathedrals. The pope really likes those when they are built, and they are great for keeping public order. I haven't bothered sending money his way, as I usually never need it to keep up my rating.

3k florins = 1 cross rating or 5k florins = 2 cross ratings + allies + 10 florins for 100 turns + military access + random gifts + no heretics in territory + joining/ initiating crusades = 1 very happy pope...
