---- I am not that good at starting threads so I'll jump in more when the discussion kicks up. (I am not a movie know it all so don't expect expert opinioins here.)
----I am disappointed in the host they picked this year. (Ellen Degnerous...yeah I butchered her name) she is more annoying the Rosie O'...so I'll probably mute it when she is talking.
-----I want the departed to win best picture, it's one of the best movies I’ve ever seen. But you have to really pay attention to get some of it. (It’s amazing how many connections and links you find between the minor characters the more you watch it.)
-------It's pretty ridiculous that Babel is the other front-runner for Best picture...it was almost (some claim it was) a box office flop.
------Best supporting actor has got to be Jack Nicholson for The Departed, it's some of the best acting I've ever seen. (Just watch the opening scene and you'll see what I mean. Also when he's asking Decaprio's Character about the rat in his crew)
Any way I'll jump in more as the conversation gets going.
the -----are because I can never indent on this forum...I have no clue why.
Give us you predictions.

I've only seen:
Little miss sunshine
The depahted.
The prestige
The illusionist
Children of Men
borat
I think it's a shame the prestige and children of men didn't get more. I'm hoping they win something. I'll root for lms and the depahted as well.

Nicholson isn't nominated...
I'll do this like Ebert... My Predictions and who I'd like to win.
Best Picture: Prediciton: Babel, Favorite: The Departed
Best Actor: Forest Whitaker/Peter O'Toole (I mean, COME ON - Lawrence of Arabia still hasn't an Oscar??!?)
Best Supporting Actor: Eddie Murphy/Mark Wahlberg
Best Actress: Helen Mirren
Best Supporting Actress: Abigail Breslin/Adriana Barazza (I hate it when kids win an oscar...)
Best Director: Martin Scorsese (IT HAS TO BE!)
Best Adapted Screenplay: Little Children/Children of Men
Best Original Screenplay: Pan's Labyrinth
Best Animated Featuere: Cars/Happy Feet
Best Foreign Language: Pan's Labyrinth/The Life of Others.
My only opinion on the subject is to hope that the departed doesn't win.
It was the most boring movie i've seen in ages.
Borat will pick up best comedy, btw

A category that doesn't exist at the Oscars...

The Departed is simply an American remake though, to be honest.
If anyone's interested, it's just got the IP rights of a Hong Kong film (Infernal Affairs) and copied it right off, changing the ending.

I thoroughly hated the movie; the acting was shoddy, the characters flat, and in general the film was pointless. Children of Men or The Prestige would get my vote.
Watched 'Babel' last night. Usually, you have something to discuss after a film but after this one I just wanted to go home and sleep. How that film got 7 nominations is a mistery to me. Is there really nothing better about?

Yep. Infernal Affairs was an incredibly good movie, and The Departed, while good, was inferior. Jack Nicholson did a great job, nevertheless, though.

I don't care who wins as long as at least one hottie wins wearing a tight see through dress with appropriate back lighting.
Babel was one of the better movies that came out this year imo. The departed just didn't do it for me. Oh and best commedy: saw III. Now that's humor!

I just watched the Departed. It's a good film full of suspense. I liked it, but Im not sure it's worth an Oscar.
Hello, Blood diamond anyone? That was a really good movie, and the first time i have actually liked di Caprio's acting (although his accent was cheesy sometimes, to where he sounded more like di Craprio!:laugh4: ). I think the black guy in the movie (I cant remember his name, hes from Gladiator) should win some kind of award for his acting. He was great, way better than the other cast members.

I've seen both and liked the departed more. (and there was a member in the mafia who got to operate, even got away with a few hits. And the FBI would tip him off whenever the police got onto him......it wasn't on the same scale as Nicholson's Character in The Departed though.)

I've seen 'The Departed' and enjoyed it, but I found it to be less than 'Children of Men' that was a little masterpiece! Haven't seen Babel though.
And Dicaprio deserves an oscar for his acting, but it shouldn't be with Blood Diamond.
Ya crazy, I think the Oscar for best actor actually went to the one who deserves it the most this time. Have you seen last ing of scotland? That isn't acting that's being.

Err, it's not like the director writes the story?
I think children of men and the prestige got robbed.

I don't care who wins as long as at least one hottie wins wearing a tight see through dress with appropriate back lighting. For me, the oscar for best dress goes to Nicole Kidman. She looked stunning in that tight red dress. :sweatdrop:

Aye, that was one hell of a movie. Forest Whitaker deserved the oscar he got, no question about it
