What would 100% Islam do in rome?

If some how I converted rome to 100% Islam what would happen? if the pope comes back with a massive army, that would be terrible inaccurate on every level.

The Pope would still reappear even if the Ayatollah himself had made the Vatican his personal residence. His pain-in-the-arse-Holiness is hardcoded to show up there no matter what. It's unfortunate, but such are the limits of game coding. :shrug:

and he'd have so many troops you'd never see a religious uprising against him.

Still you could launch a jihad or 10 (which in this case would be a fair exploit to match against the ridiculous re-emergences).

The papal re-appearances are a bad feature that you have to live with. It would have been better if he had only been allowed to come back if Rome's loyalty went below 120% and if over 60% of the population were catholic. Once the province's population had been converted there should have been no danger of him coming back again.

Right on, Cambyses. I wish that that's how it worked, too. To take another example, I've always found it frustrating as the Byz when at war with the "Italians" (Sicilians, Venetians, etc.). I would like nothing more than to just be able to conquer my way up the peninsula, but holding Rome is such a pain in the arse that it's rarely worth doing so. Oh, would that I could simply convert the local population to Orthodoxy and be done with it.... :wall:

fortunately, the XL mod provides a workaround for this (not entirely voluntarily, though): since the Pope tends to be very aggrssive and usually conquers his way into central Europe over time, you are free to grab his Italian holdings without danger of a reappearance - although Papal calls for crusades against you might become more frequent....
