Wasn't the DX10 ATI card R600 supposed to be out this January.. Am I missing something here... ?!
Looks like March or April (http://www.digitimes.com/mobos/a20070213PD216.html) for the beast. And it looks as though it's going to be monstrously big (http://vr-zone.com/?i=4622). You're gonna need a new case for this hunk of burning silicon ...

That's huge.
Someone break out the old Geforce FX 5800 pics!
Wow, things are getting positively ridiculous in the GPU race.
It's nice to see AMD/ATI finally toss its hat in the DX10 ring but I'd sooner wait and see what mid-ranged DX10 options both GPU companies have in store for us.
The current GPU race reminds me of the sports car industry of the 60s when the public was obssessed with large and incredibly powerful engines that were renowned for their power, speed and stupifyingly bad mileage. Anyway it looks like AMD/ATI and Nvidia have officially entered the big block V8 stage...

The OEM version is 12.4". The retail is 9.5".
VR-Zone has learned about some new details on 80nm R600 today and there will be 2 SKUs at launch; XTX and XT. There will be 2 versions of R600XTX; one is for OEM/SI and the other for retail. Both feature 1GB DDR4 memories on board but the OEM version is 12.4" long to be exact and the retail is 9.5" long. The above picture shows a 12.4" OEM version. The power consumption of the card is huge at 270W for 12" version and 240W for 9.5" version. As for R600XT, it will have 512MB of GDDR3 memories onboard, 9.5" long and consumes 240W of power. Lastly, there is a cheaper R600XL SKU to be launched at a later date.
IIRC the R600 retail version isn't any bigger than the current 8800 series cards.

AMD/ATi are really struggling on this one. All accounts that I've heard are that the wattage will be huge - this leads me to think that they are pumping it to it's limit simply to meet a goal, presumably topping the 8800GTX. With a nVidia refresh around the corner it doesn't look too good, not too mention all the schedule issues they've had.

It seems that nVidia is doing the better job here.. At least, from my view. AMD/ATI should plays their cards really nice, if they want to have any hope in succeeding, either in CPU grounds, or even GPU grounds..! (I can only see "it" losing at both grounds, even if to different competitors)
Well let's hope that these new AMD/ATI x2900 cards justify their power consumption and handily beat Nvidia's 88xx offerings in benchmarks (especially those of the DX10 variety). If not then AMD/ATI had better to migrate to the 65nm process ASAP.

Back to Q2 for the release date. Without meaning to be too gossipy, they aren't even calling *early* Q2 here.

By the time it's out the 8800GTX will have had six months of sales...
