My ears are ringing a bit this morning, after checking out Hammerfall at the Electric ballroom in Camden last night, so I thought we might try a thread about gigs. Tell us about the last gig you went to. So that we can rate all gigs objectively I suggest we adopt these universal headings for gig greatness:
Awesomeness of band
Quality of beer
Quality of loos
Quality of talent
Quality of kebab/deathburger on way home.
So, here goes:
Awesomeness of band: 7/10. Danish heavy metal songs about big hammers can't be wrong, and we had some furious riffing and great drumming, but the live experience didn't quite get over the line from good to great. More work needed. Gotta love a European tour that has its last date in Dudley though.
Quality of beer 7/10 That's good for a venue. Murphy's, Stella, Amstell et al. Great improvement on pissy carling at the "carling" venues, Brixton academy please note.
Quality of loos 9/10. They were there, there were no queues, most of the urine was in the urinal, with less than a centimetre on the floor. The discerning gig goer can ask for no more. :2thumbsup:
Quality of talent 2/10 To be honest what do you expect at a metal gig? If you arrived single you would be hoping to leave single too. The goth barmaid with the huge [drumkit] was cute though.
Quality of kebab/deathburger on way home. Untested. My wife vetoed this, sorry.

Youch, been a while now; I think the last one I went to was Mogwai, which was great. Got Black Keys coming up on the 3rd of march, and Will Oldham soon after. Ratings will follow.
In April I can give two ratings. Both of the Chili Peppers.

Christ, it's been ages since I've been to a gig. Closest I've come is Jazz night at the union.

Last saturday, a gig by Barefoot Turnips (http://www.bturnips.net/). Even though I had the time to see only the first two songs I was impressed. Utterly charming.
Been a loooong time. Not including small bar bands, I guess my last concert was Slayer in 2002, touring for "God Hates Us All", at the 930 Club in DC. Good set with new stuff and old classics, very loud. Ears were ringing the next day. :2thumbsup:
Awesomeness of band - 10/10. It's Slayer, they do a great live set.
Quality of beer - N/A, didn't drink, but the 930 has a OK selection
Quality of loos - N/A, see above ~;)
Quality of talent - 2/10, probably 10 girls total in the whole place
Quality of kebab/deathburger on way home. - 7/10, pizza!
Bump.
Saw the Chili Peppers last night. I was tempted to walk out, but then they played Throw Away Your Television which was amazing. Overall the first three songs were rubbish (Can't Stop, Dani something about Tom Petty, and Charlie), they were boring and lacked emotion. Then when they pulled out Throw Away Your Television it demonstrated who the posers were. The line up from then on was sweet, (minus Hump De Bump and Snow which I must say were garbage), played Me & My Friends (1987 Uplift Mofo!!!), This Velvet Glove, Don't Forget Me, I Feel Love, a cover with John singing, Californication, By The Way, Higher Ground, I Could Of Lied and Sunny (Marvin Gaye) with Flea singing. But I'm really disappointed because they didn't play Give It Away or Under The Bridge, both of which are awesome live.
So all-in-all
Awesomeness of band - 7/10 A bit iffy, all the new songs were rubbish.
Quality of beer - N/A, didn't drink, but it's the Acer so it's got fully fitted bars and many quality options, so maybe a 8/10 if you did.
Quality of loos - 10/10 Wow, clean and no queues at all.
Quality of talent - 9/10, much talent. :smoking:
Quality of kebab/deathburger on way home - N/A didn't get one, but it's Sydney so if you did get one, going on previous experience, it would be a 9/10.
Bonus Rank:
Quality of Posers - 10/10 brilliant posers, stunning quality. One guy had a shirt saying #1 Fan so I went up and asked him what their second album was to which he replied "****** if I know".

Trinity Ball is looming, on the 11 th of May. I think Ash and the Director are coming... It should be fun. According to your scale:
Awesomeness of band: since there will be about a dozen, i'd say about an 8/10
Quality of beer: Ah, beer! This is Ireland! 9/10, since we'll be getting the cehap version of everything
Quality of loos: 2/10. And the men might wear kilts... Horror:no:
Quality of talent: Talent never entered the equation. But we'll be slaughtered...
Quality of kebab/deathburger on way home: As I said, Dublin, city centre. 8/10 as usual...
Ensiferum at Fridge London....
Awesomeness of band: 7/10
Quality of beer: 4/10
Quality of loos: 1/10.
Quality of talent: 5/10
Quality of kebab: NA
