View Full Version : Qart Hadast barracks question
Qart Hadastim (Kart Hadastim) have two types of military buildings:
1. Barracks, Stables and Armory and
2. Militia Armory and Magazine for Foreign Natives.
The first building has a detailed list of available units for recruitment. The other building has some txt, but the text does not explain exactly what the benefit of this building is.
Is there a good, thorough explanation somewhere on this forum regarding the difference between these buildings and why I should build one or the other?

The first is the factional MIC, the second is the regional MIC.

Read the STRATEGY text at the bottom of each for more details, but basically the farther away from your homeland the more likely you are to recruit foreign troops. The closer you are, the more likely you are to recruit your faction's traditional troops.
So, correct me if I'm wrong... and yes, I did read the strategy section at the bottom, but I still was not sure...
If you are only interested in recruiting factional troops, you build only the first line of barracks. If you are only intersted in recruiting regional troops, you only build the stuff for foreign natives, and this latter has nothing to do with mercenaries.
Did I get it right?
Or are the buildings interrelated, so that you must build barracks to make regionals work?
Does government type have any influence on actual recruitment or just which type of building can be upgraded to what level?
I guess the somewhat complicated system of MICs has eluded me somewhat. I still think it is lightyears better than vanilla RTW

Thanks. I suggest that a clarification on MICs to be placed either on the main EB site or as a "sticky" on this forum to minimize stupid questions like mine being asked over and over, since it is fundamentally different from RTW vanilla and can confuse people...well, like me.

Strangely enough, I have built a couple of levels of Foreign Natives buildings in a couple of level 4 settlements, and still can only recruit phoenician militia. I'll keep playing with it, though.

In what cities? If your doing it in Africa or Iberia don't bother *well you can bother in Iberia, a level 4 regional mic gives you Loricati Scutari, but thats it*. Build some regional mics in sicily or italy and you will get access to greek and italic units.
Thanks for the heads up on Africa and Iberia. That is exactly where I was looking. Now I can save my 0.5 million Mnai and spend them on something else.
Something tells me that this area of local recruitment has not been finalized yet.

No that AOR is more of less pretty good. It just that carthage historical controled a lot of that area and used huge numbers of those troops, so while others might get them in the regional mics, carthage gets them in the factional mic.
I stand corrected
I built the citadel in Ippone, but still only get regular elephants. Am I correct to assume that the next level of elephants are not ready yet?

They are, but they can only be recruited in the Ethiopian proviences, the 3 down war south of eygpt. I'm sure about why Carthage can't get them in West Africa, but they can't. *I thought they both used the same type of elephant*
