Anyway to prepare when enemy sallies forth?

Is there any way to prepare/deploy your forces when the enemy sallies forth... Such as adding a spy, or having a spy in the city, etc.... I mean, I know they never knew WHEN the enemy would come out, but you figure archers would already have stakes in the ground, months ago... like the campaign map shows, lol.

anybody ever experience anything?

Nope, no way of doing.

Only thing you can do is hit pause at the start and redeploy.
