Would you rather be the ruler of a small nation or a servant of a large nation?

Nothing beats a good old-fashioned gah!

You can turn a small nation into a large one. ;)

King Henry V
02-24-2007, 23:49
Ruler of a small one of course. Nothing like a good bit of Total War foreign policy to expand the nation, especially if you're in a region where there are many other small countries.

Time to beat up the US with 3 units of Mexican Guerillas, two of whom don't have guns.

I love the AI.

LOL.

How about ruler of a big nation?

Assassins are easy to spam.

I voted Gah, but in all honesty I'd rather be my own master than a puppet.

Justiciar

It depends on what you mean by servant. :inquisitive: And what kind of nation are we talking about here? I'd rather be a Oligarch of the late USSR than a faceless factory worker in Imperial Britain.

IrishArmenian
02-25-2007, 02:17
Really, this is a case-sensitive decision for me.
Like Justiciar, I could not be a factory worker in Imperial Britain, but I would not, like to be a higher up in the USSR for morality reasons.

Just one of the whining Canadian proletariat is good enough for me. :canada:

Or King of Naked Babe Kinkyland. Either one.

I see there's a lot more chiefs than indians here!

So long as it wasn't a small nation in Africa or Latin America, I'd be glad to rule it. There's a tendancy in those two regions to cycle through many leaders in relatively short periods.

Something like Luxembourg or Lichtenstein would be just perfect.

Ruler of the small nation, but I would be scared that the power would start to go to my head.

I'm a right honourable gentleman, not a majesty.

Duh, if you are ruler you can do what you please. For example if ones brother is a little bit annoying you can put him in the stocks and throw poo at him...

You don't have to be a ruler for that.

Actually AUstralia is a massive nation, Australia is almost larger then the US!
It would take a few monthes to egt from the East Coast to the West Coast of Australia.

I would be the servant of Australia, and what type of servant would I be? Probaly the person who stands by Parliment door and during meetings, shovels all the crap away.

What would the title be?

"Your Honorable Dingo"

Martok

Hmm. Gonna have to go with "GAH!" on this one, as I would really have to judge it on a case-by-case basis. ~D

Certainly a ruler of a small nation.

Or was it the other way 'round.

Almost larger? the US is also almost larger then Russia

I'd rather be the leader of a small nation, something like Monaco or Luxembourg, then being a servant in a larger (exept offcourse if that would be a good position to overthrow the goverment? )

'tis better to reign in Hell than to serve in Heaven. And that's the quote i was looking for

Duke Malcolm
02-26-2007, 17:43
The quote was the other way round
...better to serve in heaven (actually, Earth, i think Achilles said) than be a king in hell...

King Henry V
02-26-2007, 18:51
Wasn't it Milton? I believe it was referring to Satan, in which case it would have been "'tis better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven".

Duke Malcolm
02-26-2007, 19:09
Perhaps, but isn't it also written in the Odyssey that Achilles says something quite contrary?

Without a doubt “ruler of a small nation”.

I'd gladley serve in the mighty nation of Monty, ruled by the great Pythons.
Though if I was the uler of a small nation, it would have to be a nation of GOONS!

Caerfanan
02-27-2007, 11:03
I voted "servant in a large nation". That for the serious part: mankind's only hope is to finally consider all those speaking monkeys as a part of one nation, and this doesn't mean that one has to make the others behave like him.

And wishing oneself some sort of king or princess unfortunately doesn't help.

Now, this would probably reduce the inspiration for totalwar games, wouldn't it? :laugh4:

Ruler of a small nation. Unless those two nations happen to be at war :laugh4:

It was Milton, and it's correct as quoted.

It doesn't make sense the other way around :laugh4:

Definitely ruler of a small nation. Look at Luxembourg. Big city, covered by huge walls. My type of kingdom from where to expand.

To quote Julius Ceasar: I would rather be the leader of a small gallic village, than be second man in Rome.

And in Paradise Lost, written by John Milton, the quote is from Satan's line: "'Tis better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven." Which is actually a pretty powerful line because in Paradise Lost, Satan and his demons are just as tormented by Hell as any mortal.

Or was it the other way 'round.i'd rather serve in heaven but this does not relate to the question.
