In order to make some mod about the faction symbols placed in STRATPAGE_02.TGA and in SHAREDPAGE_01.TGA I tried to unpack the patch_0.pak file using Vercingetorix's xpak and editing in it:
xpak.exe -mkdir patch_0.pak
xpak.exe patch_0.pak
as I read in a thread on this forum, but it failed to open the file and only crated a folder structure like this
Data
Items Models_building Models_unit Shaders UI
and so on .., whit no files present at all inside this folders.
Does anybody knows how to open the patch_0.pak file correctly?
Thank’s for your advice!

Looks right I just tested with
xpak.exe -mkdir patch_0.pak
xpak.exe patch_0.pak
and it worked for me.
Curious if for some reason yours isn't reading second line do you have any tabs or spaces etc after the -mkdir line? I guess you could always try it with just the
xpak.exe patch_0.pak line now you already have the file structure?

I tried again but alas with no results!
I have no spaces or tabs after the mkdir line.
I also tried after the file structure was created but again with no results.
Could it maybe depend from the version of vercingetorix Xpack?
I'm using version 0.25 b

Mine says v 0.25 in readme, xpak.exe is dated 8/10/2004.
But I've not heard of any problems with any version.
Do you have both the .bat and the xpak.exe in the same folder as the patch_0.pak ? Not sure how you would have got directory structure if not but its only thing I can think of!
Theres a tutorial on using xpak here:
http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=49498:
(db problem currently but should soon be back)
in case that says anything I've forgotten.
copy patch_0 and pak extractor to empty folder
rename patch_0 to for example models_unit_textures.pak
run extractor
rename your file back and put it back and you have the files ;)
