View Full Version : Bug - CTD when ending turn

Hi,
when ending the turn I get a crash to desktop with this message:

Medieval 2: Total War encountered an unspecified error and will now exit.

Must be familiar with some by now...

I created a new Windows XP user as suggested in this thread https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=80172

but that didn't help. I'm in turn 93 with the English and so far the game worked fine with some exceptions:

In the Antioch region (actually the city to the North West, can't remember the name), I have a boat in the harbour but a heretic is occupying the same space. When trying to assassinate him or sending a priest, I don't get the option to kill or trial but only have the option to move the character onto the boat. When doing so, the game crashes immediately with the above error as well. So I left the boat there and ignored it.

I'm not sure if this has anything to do with the game crashing when ending the turn. Since I can't end the turn this save game is practically dead. Any ideas what else I can try? I'm using latest video drivers already.

Cheers,

SadOldGoth

try moving either the boat or the heretic (using the move_character cheat)

Hi,
it looks like the program can't find the character. What do I do in this case?

Character name is Ekmel of something so I type

move_character Ekmel of something 25,25

This doesn't find the character. Other characters also sometimes are not found. Any ideas? Also, what's a valid x,y position?

Thanks in advance!

I have a CTD when ending turn 200 as the English (which is also the turn where I got the Discovering the New World message). I don't have any idea where to start, but I guess I'll try doing some different things and see if they help.

@SadOldGoth - try clicking on it so that the move radius is shown, and use 'move_character this [whatever]'

Use the format exactly:
"FirstName prefix_LastName"
Making sure you spell the name correctly and know which part is first and which part last name.
Also, öäüéè and the other special letters are to be replaced by their bases (o for ö for example)

This works for the reset_character command, but not sure if it does for the move_character command though since I haven't played M2TW for ages due to the annoying campaign lags.

If the character has a title (the whatever), only use its first name. Problem then is if there are several characters that have the same first name AND/OR any title - in which case its quite random which character is chosen (if any - game might refuse)

Yeah either of those suggestions should work well. For what it's worth though, I think it's tons easier to click the target man/agent/unit and then just call him "this." Saves all the worrying about how to correctly address the item in question so it understand you're talking to/about it, and it also makes any name duplication etc irrelevant, as you've clearly clicked the one you want.

"this" does not work for everything though.
i.e. character_reset refuses to work with "this"
