Hi user999,
Don't worry, your not retarded and you haven't done anything wrong! Until the Marian reforms recuitment of homeland troops is limited to Italy only. The Marian reforms expand the homeland recuitment regions out slightly further and then the Augustan reforms make the region of which factional troops can be trained to almost everywhere which the Romans historically would have conqured around about this time. Hope this helps you, cheers!

Hi again,
To get the Polybian reforms you have to be at least at the year 242, either hold 2 out of Segesta, Mediolanum, Patavium or Bononia and two out of of Lilibeo, Messana, Syracuse or you have wait until 210BC. I think you get the new units after upgrading your MICs so, until you do that, you can still have your old veterans retrained. Good luck.

Thanks, Omanes. In my game, I will meet those conditions for Polybian reforms. Does anyone know the dates and other conditions for the Marian and Augustan reforms? (I feel daft asking such a question - is there a thread or something that has this info?)

Could someone please tell me how much further from the homeland the marian Reforms allow legionaires to be trained?

Well, when I tested the 081 EDB with my 080 Roman campaign, I could recruit legionaries from Britain to Egypt, Spain to Armenia. I think it is about the edge of the Roman Empire's furthest extent.

So the answer: everywhere.
