What year does the New World open up? I've tried sending a navy to the west but I couldn't go anywhere...does it have anything to do with Explorer Guilds? My game is at year 1498, and I expected it 3 turns ago.

The 'World is Round' event should appear between 1400 and 1408, I think. Either your game is bugged or the event already happened. Are you sure you can't get a fleet to go west?

AFAIK, the explorers guild has nothing to do with the process.

Another thing to check, make sure your fleet consists of only ocean faring vessels. I had a gun holk mixed in with my carracks once and the thing won't go anywhere. Funny thing is when I split the fleet, my army all went with my gun holk. Had to pull over and transfer the army by land.

I think you need an explorer's guild in at least one of your coastal cities.

@Sapi. No, you just need an ocean going Ship. hat means a carrack/Gandae Carrack if your playing as cathloics.

I Know because I once modified Longboats to be ocean going as an experiment and I got to the new world before I had ANY guilds.

The Ocean going ships are all avalibile ONLY from the 4th level dockyards and you need a Huge City to get them I think.

Go into your Export Descr Unit file and find the Longboat entry, (it's near the top), and find the line that says:


ship light warship.

and replace it with:


ship heavy warship

You can also mod when the "World is Round" event occurs in descr_events.txt.
