Hey guys,
Quick question: Do you think that the 256MB ATI MOBILITY RADEON X1400 HyperMemory on a Dell Inspiron laptop would play Medieval 2 Total War well?
Thanks!

Exactly what I'm curious of too!
Currently have an Inspiron 9400, with the standard(and cheapest!) intel card. It does NOT play the game very well... I've got all settings on minimum, and still get lots of lag. If you're about to buy a laptop, DO NOT get that card. It's built in too, so when I get around to upgrading, I'll have to buy a new motherboard as well. I'm guessing Dell has the same products in every country, so you have the option to get either the x1400, or the more expensive Nvidia 7600. From what I've found, the NVidia card is a VERY good card, so if you like wonderful graphics, you should go with that. However, if you don't care so much for graphics and is a cheap bastard like me, I'd try looking around for a review or something on the x1400. Still haven't found anything though.
But if you decide to get the x1400, it would be very nice of you to send me a pm and tell me how it works :)
And if you find something about it, please tell that too...I'll do the same if I find anything.
Oh, and for those wondering about what card that is, x1400 is a laptop-only edition of some card noone seems to find any info on... Not even the Dell techsupport guy I talked to knew much about it.
A quick quote from Notebookcheck.net:
ATI Mobility Radeon X1400
ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 is part of the lower middle class. The performance can be compared with an elder X600, but technically it is a X1300, which is scarcely 100 Mhz higher clocked.
Specifications
performance class: 3
series: Mobility Radeon X1000
codename: M54
pipeline: 4 pixel-pipelines and 2 vertex-pipelines
clock: chip: 445 MHz, memory: 250 MHz
memory: DDR1/DDR2/GDDR3, maximum upgrade: 256 MB, bus: 128 bit, HyperMemory up to 256 MB additionally from the main memory
directX: 9c, Shader Model 3.0
features: Avivo video and display engine. PCI express x16-Bus; 90-nm
application area: small and light-weight notebooks
other infos: 105 million transistors
Benchmarks
Here you find a list with approximative benchmark values, which can be achieved with this video card. The values can strongly deviate due to different hardware (processor, memory).
3DMark01: 15000 points
3DMark03: 5070 points
3DMark05: 2270 points
3DMark06: 900 points
To be honest: you'd be pushing it - it might work, but i wouldn't like to try.
Much better than nothing though

Yes, it will be good enough. My friend have Gigabyte Radeon X1300Pro PCI-Express (basically the same model), and MII TW runs well.
What I found MII TW can perform well in lower class of the new generation's graphics cards, but need more RAM. 512mb is just not enough if you set on higher settings.
well, my laptop's x200m can run MTW2 but on lowest settings...
