I had to share this...

Playing a English campaign holding all of the British Isles and a fair bit of France including Toulouse Castle...

Yesterday, in a single turn, I fought three successful battles against Portuguese invaders (one of which was a siege) during which very large number of prisoners were taken. Having won the battles by a fair margin allowed me to feel comfortable enough to offer to ransom the prisoners back - an offer that was taken up for all three groups of prisoners (mainly dismounted knights, artillery crews and pavise crossbowmen) raising a very nice profit...

...once ransomed, all three groups fled onto a Portuguese ship off the French coast...

...which was only a few squares from my Toulouse fleet which then attacked and sunk the ship...

"Training an army: 8000 florins
Ransoming an army: 4000 florins
Sinking a ransomed army after the payment has cleared: Priceless........"

Cheers,

I had a similar moment at the end of my English campaign. Near turn 205, I finally had the last of the Pope's cities rebel (they had taken Venice and Bologna, which I needed to use spies and assassins to force them to rebel), and Rome was the last to follow. I requested the Pope to call a crusade to Jerusalem (the last city I needed for Victory), with my troops on Rhodes preparing for the journey. Rome was in the hands of Rebels, Constantinople fell to Rebels (previously in Mongol hands), and the Pope was homeless.

Unfortunately before I was to reach the holy land, the Pope begged for Rome back, and the Mongols had retaken their city. Overall it was a nice end to my first campaign.

Now I await for some interesting mods, and then adjust the turns per year to 4, and start up a 1800 turn marathon game, using Sicily to become king of the mediterranean. Just for kicks, I might use that hotseat mode to control the danes while I'm at it :laugh4:

Waiting patiently for the next patch...
