Just curious as to whether anyone here is interested in this, or rather, have any
of you played it? It is essentially a re-make of the third game in the old series,
which was based on the Eastern Front. Last I played of it was the Stalingrad
mod for CC5, but I am thinking about taking a look at this game, if it is suitably
improved.

I have no idea about this, but if it is a remake of CC3, I can tell you it is excellent if they suceeded. Not sure if its worth 40 bucks though.

Ah, here's whats new:

The original release of Close Combat III commonly presents problems running on modern PC’s. Cross of Iron has been engineered to be compatible and stable with current levels of PC Systems with Pentium 4 and above, DirectX9+, and Accelerated Graphics Adapters. However, it should still run on systems it was originally designed for, though this has not been comprehensively tested.

In addition, improvements have been made to the AI to reduce some of the more inadequate performance issues, in particular with respect to vehicle pathing, the 'crawl of death', and Team and Unit morale and response in general. For example, it is much more risky to try and use Teams in isolation as the influence of Command Teams is more significant. You should find that you will need to play more cohesively than in the original game

Other improvements, upgrades, and additions include:

· DirectX handling

· Timing

· Scroll Speed handling

· Crash on Battle Maker (Scenario Editor) resolved

· Volume Adjustment Slider available in Options

· Multiplayer Connectivity restricted to TCPIP (WAN/LAN) only

· New Sounds (many not heard before)

· Explosions from CCIV (Batttle of the Bulge) have been used, which are more impressive.

No crawl of death caught my eye more than anything when I first looked over it,
not that I'm sure modifications achieved something similar before, but to have it
in a stock version is a good change.

No-one played it, though?

[As for the originals, have to say I favoured CC5. Always thought CC3 was just a
bit too unforgiving with the infantry, and the armour to infantry balance.]
