I started up M2TW for the first time here and go underway with my fist battles and noticed that as the English my militia spearmen were being utterly demolished by peasant units. Baffled by this I ran a few quick battle tests and noticed that peasants consistently outperform many types of infantry (I ran my tests using England v. France).

Remembering this site from my RTW days I came out here seeking help and after searching over the forums I came across several other posts that covered this topic. Most players suggested the easiest fix to this peculiar imbalance is to "Mod the peasants out". However, I was unable to find any clear directions on how to mod peasants out of the game.

Can anyone provide me with a little help here?

Search for the shield fix. It removes the value of the shield, and adds half the value into defense, half into armour.

The weird stuff you're seeing, is because of the shield bug. The value of the shield in melee is subtracted, not added, to total defense. Thus, a soldier with armour 6 and a big shield(5), actually only has 1 single point in defense in melee.

This is fixed in the new patch.

In the 1.1 Patch? Because I installed that figuring that might have the fix but even after 1.1 I'm still having this problem.

Also I found Foz's Shield Fix but I can't seem to install it properly. His instructions state:

Put it in your data folder where the export_descr_unit.txt file you use is, and run it. It generates a new file called "new unit file.txt" that you'll have to rename to export_descr_unit.txt after you backup your old one.

However, there is no export_descr_unit.txt or similarly named file anywhere in my M2TW data folder (or anywhere else).

You'll need to run the unpacker. go into your M2TW folder and look for a folder called "Tools" In their should be a folder called "Unpacker" and in that should be a readme.

Read it and follow it and violla.
