...what are groups? and what are the 'perks' of joining a group.

Groups:

Groups are the mod groups. They allow access to the private sub-sections of the forums.

The Watchtower group allows you to post in the watchtower backroom (IIRC)

You can leave it at any time, and if you left voluntarily, be restored upon request.

Groups are for mods basically

Warcraft Total War group allows access to the Warcraft Total War private forum.

Groups in forums = means of giving selective access easily

AM/Mod/Admin groups are levels of access, and the others give access to specific forums.

The 'backroom' group that all members have is the one that allows access to the backroom of the tavern
