I've been thinking of going retro and getting ShogunTW. I started with Medieval, but lately have been getting the urge to play on the other side of the world. So my question is: what version will suit me best? I already have MTW/VI and RTW, so I don't really want to spend the money for the Eras box. I assume my other options are the Gold and Warlord editions. Looks like the Gold runs on XP, so I may be "stuck" with that. Any problems I can expect, or drivers and patches I need to get before experiencing the lusciousness?

I play Warlord Edition on XP- works fine. Infact, it's great. I wish my RTW worked so fast. It's real cheap now, too. I think you can get it for £4.99 in the UK so it won't be much where you are.

Hi drone,
If you have any problems with CTDs or other such problems in S:TW then this thread (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=49780) might be able to help you. Good luck, cheers!

While having a backup copy of MTW/VI would be nice, the thought of paying for Rome twice would leave a very bad taste in my mouth.

Thanks Omanes, I already skimmed that thread some. I never followed STW releases, so I'm not really familiar with the differences between them. I assume the Gold Edition contains the latest patch. I was mainly interested in other gotchas, like DirectX versions, known bad video drivers, that sort of thing. Nothing worse than getting all excited to play a game, having it in hand, and then having to spend hours/days jumping through hoops just to get it going. I'd want to be prepared so my instant gratification is unspoilt (and instant). ~D

If you plan to play online do not get the Gold version but the warlords edition.

Get the Warlord Edition. There is no newer patch AFAIK, so if STW Gold works on XP then so will STW/WE. The problem is not XP as such anyway, but more so graphics card drivers and certain software such as Nero that cause most of the problems. I have far less problems with Shogun than I do with MTW in fact.

Thanks for the replies. Now I guess my problem is finding someplace with a copy of STW/WE.

I may also try the SamuraiWarlords mod, I've been impressed with what I see in the mod forum. :2thumbsup:

With Total War Eras you'll pay way too much for just STW.. and with amazon you'll need to pay trough the internet. (if that's no problem.. do it ~;))

But apart for buying it from internet.. it's hard to find in stores these days! (of course.. about 7 years old - still super cool though)

Gee.. I should really make some time to play some shogun again :juggle2: :book: :balloon2:
