--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ive managed to complete a couple of new campaign mods, mainly due to the great information Ive found on this site. I have moded start pos files, unit and building files, names, and finally managed to make an entirley new unit (Knights of Avalon), one thing I cant seem to do is find the source for the information parchments (such as the ones which show the birth or maturity of an heir, or the notification that u have reached a technological advantage. Could anyone help me with where these are located, I believe they are subdivided by religion, but I cant find them anywhere , can anyone help , Many thanks

Hmm. You've already asked that here:https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=80314 and here:https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=28198
I've also answered it there. Was my answer unsatisfactory? Do you need more information?
No offense intended but we try to keep discussions in one place/thread.

Iirc it's in "Medieval/campmap". It's one file called "epic.bif".
You'll need the bifreader, which you can get here: http://www.box.net/public/kcd2ciy431
There's also a download section here at .org. At the top of the page there's a link called "Files". From there on you'll need to go to Medieval and then to tools but you can just use the link above.

All parchments are packed together in the epic file. The bifreader allows to extract the single parchments as bmp files which then can be edited and reimported.

I doth my cap to you sir. I tried it and the last problem in my two custome campaigns are complete. Three weeks to complete, but I have a good start point now, so any future new campagins with my new factions Avalons (who are a pagan but chivalric culture) and Valhalla s (who are an advanced Viking culture) should be much eaiser to complete

Thanks for all your help. One last question, I have set the game end date as 1800, will the game continue to this point.

Once again many thanks
Jason

You're welcome.
Yes the game should continue till 1800, no problem there.

I have no idea if this belongs here, but how come most of the epic bifs are, well, empty? There is no picture on many of them. I don't know why this is, could some one help me? And how do you get the game to refer to certain parts of the Epic.bif files? In the viking startpos file, does the portiats override refer to the vikings folder or the vikings/vikings folder?

We can only guess that the developers initially planned on having more pictures. The empty ones are placeholders. There're no events connected to the empty slots.

And how do you get the game to refer to certain parts of the Epic.bif files?
It's not working like that. You need to know which image shows up when. If you decide that you want the event tied to another picture you've to edit the one displayed.
Let's say "faction reemergence" is tied to #15 (it's not) and you don't like the pic. Then you have to extract frame #15 from epic.bif and edit the bitmap. After that you re-import the edited bmp and the event is then tied to your edited pic.

In the viking startpos file, does the portiats override refer to the vikings folder or the vikings/vikings folder?
It refers to the folder portraits/vikings. There's no subfolder vikings in portraits/vikings. This has nothing to do with the epic.bif.

After editing the BIF, should I rename it? Sorry about the "vikings" thing, I was wondering on how to obtian the viking campaign potraits for the main campiagn without overwriting them all. The reason I asked was that after opening portriats/vikings, I saw another folder named vikings (along with catholic, orthodox, etc.) I was just wondering which folder the override was refering to.

No, it mustn't be changed.
Only with the correct name will the game read the file.

No need to apologise.
If you use the portraits override, the game will know where to look if you haven't changed anything else.
I'll have to check the folder structure for vikings/vikings thing.
