View Full Version : Force peace
Any way to force peace through the console or something? I've been "at war" with Carthage (playing as Rome) for 40 years or so... even though they've been left with only 2 provinces in south Iberia and we haven't had any contact for 30 years. They always refuse peace, claiming they can't accept. Anyhoo, I don't know if I'm remembering correctly or not but I think maybe I heard there was a way to force it.

I don't think that works, I've tried it myself and it never has.

Now that would be good to know. then you'll be able to simulate those temporary ceasefires of 2 or so years and then go at it after both sides have regained strength. The absence of temporary ceasefires is one of the main reasons why nations steamroll over others so quickly in RTW. As the player you are forced to elimate factions not out of desire but purely because the last city won't make peace and keeps sending piddly little armies to annoy you with.

The cheat has to be done through scripting. Someone said they were going to try it a while back but never reported if it worked. I wish there was a definate yes or no to whether this is possible some way or another.

I'm not sure if it has been looked into or not before... but i can assure you that there is a lot on the EB plate and this sounds like it would require a lot of work. So i don't think it is matter as simple as "can't" but a matter of priorities (such as the hotfix, CTD elimating etc).

Well if EB could do it it would be great. Though it would be bad if people abuse it and stop fighting just cuz it got hard.
Using it sparingly would be proper Except for barbarian factions which had border skirmishes and people invasions.
Shame CA couldnt come up with a real diplomacy system. Civ4 diplomacy and rtw gameplay would be :2thumbsup:

Meh, maybe its just me, but I wasn't too impressed with Civ4's Diplomacy. Too easy to manipulate as far as I was concerned. Though a proper diplomacy section would be devilishly complex. So I just take what I can get.

Actually, DimeBagho has instituted a forced diplomacy script into his mod XGM
( Extended Greek Mod ) and it works like a charm. You can check out his XGM mod over at TWC or here at the .org i believe for more info on the forced diplomacy script he uses. As i mentioned it works great. Of course it is in the player's interest to use "House Rules" or things could definately get out of hand in favor of the player....but...if used with strict house rules it will clearly add to the enjoyment of a campaign. As you would now be able to force a ceasefire with a faction for their own good rather than just crushing them outright. For whatever reason...I.E. keeping them as a buffer between your border and some other faction... I certainly wouldn't mind seeing something like this in EB but totally understand if it's something that isn't a priority for the team.
Well, I sure hope EB devs get it touch and use it for this mod too. Seems like a reasonable thing, since the diplomacy is completely irrational.

The console command is "force_diplomacy accept/decline/off" should force the AI to accept a diplomatic proposal.
The problem is that it may be the only console command that dosen't work properly.
Maybe EB could impliment this force diplomacy script into EB, I don't think it would be hard because Dime has already created the script.

That would mean limited war time, like fighting the Greeks for 4 years, and then an automatic ceasefire comes upright when you are about to take th capital.
If thats the case, wars should then be fought with a length of 10 years.
What do you think?
What? Are you sure that's how it works? There is automatic peace after a given time? If so, then it doesn't sound good. I thought it was just that you can force a peace treaty to go through whenever you want. And if you have some restraint, it won't be abused and you'll only use it when logical. Otherwise, it's not really a viable option I'd think.

What's to stop you from breaking the "treaty" and sacking their capital? If you don't want peace and you have a big army... i see a way out of this.

The theoretical script works by making the enemy always except your diplomatic offers anyways.

And it doesn't work that way. In fact, I believe, it's something you have to activate it manually - and I'm sure you're strongly advised to have a good set of house rules for this kind of thing.

Tellos Athenaios is correct. It is manually activated..Meaning of course you don't have to use it if you don't want to. It'll come up on the diplomacy screen and of course is activated by clicking the " show me how button ".
I've tried it in Dime's XGM and it works like a charm. Of course you must use strict house rules as to when to implement the forced diplomacy. If anyone is interested in taking a look at DBH's Forced Diplomacy script...he posted it here and also spells out where everything needs to go in case anyone wants to give it a go and mod it in themselves.

Man, Dime is awesome. Now if someone here figures out how to imlement it with EB specifically, we'll be set!
Well can't you just edit the EB scripts with the guide that Dime posted?

It's been over 10 years, and Imperialism 2 still reigns supreme. There, AI actually makes logical descisions - "okay, we might hate them, they have burned down our cities, raped our women, taken our cattle, but now they want to ally with us in our desperate struggle against another evil invader - we accept, it costs us nothing".
And the like. The AI there is not suicidal, declares war against you when it calculates it can profit, not when you piss it off. It will also accept peace, even if you took their homelands, provided they don't see a way out.
If it was possible then, it is possible now. I imagine it was a simple solution, rather than complex coding, based on the limited repertoare of diplomatic options. But it was something that I have yet to see repeated...

I don't know, that's the problem. There might be differences. Certain things you might not be able to remove as the guide suggests, and might have to be merged and edited differently. Plus, it might be in a different file all together. I don't know these things, which is why I'm hoping someone who has definite answers to them will arise. Arise!

Paradox diplomacy is what you want here.

Not that I can tell. The EB "export_descr_advice.txt" doesn't even contain the entry you're supposed to edit in Dime's guide.
I'd love to see an EB-compatible implementation of this. I got so sick of Aedui raids into southern Gaul that I systematically wiped out every single one of their cities -- conquered, exterminated populations, and destroyed every building -- but they still won't accept a peace.
Is the diplomatic AI in vanilla this bad? I remember being mildly impressed by MTW2 when I could get a faction to accept peace by blockading its trading hubs, making it go broke.

Yes it was always this bad-- "crap diplomacy" is definitely not an EB feature.

I believe you all are looking for this: console_command diplomatic_stance faction1 faction2 war/neutral/allied . I doubt that working through the console.
Add a line of this type into your EBBS, to the beginning of it, load your game, activate the script and voila, your wish comes true, even though it doesn't force the AI to stay in that state as it doesn't alter AI's preferences, there's another command for that, which I don't readily have with me. Remember to remove the line from the EBBS before the next gaming session. And do backup your EBBS.
I've set up some triggers for other things, I made one for auto_win, since that didn't work in the 1.2 EB. I'll see if I can make a little minimod with dimes script.
Yay! There's always a helping hand or two here at the Org. It's a wonderful thing. Thanks guys.
I added a mini-mod into the "EB Unofficial Modding Projects" sub forum, that will allow you to use Force Diplomacy. Time for bed!
Sweet! No more swatting three-unit raids from exhausted enemies every turn. Thanks much.
