well, in response to your "what's the easier family to play?" question, the roman factions themselves aren't any harder over eachother to play as... the only real issue to look into that they have different positions coupled with resulting different expansion goals (i.e. the julii expand into northwestern Europe while the brutii would typically expand into greece and beyond)... otherwise, the only differences you'll find is that that the roman factions get their own individual gods/goddesses to build temples for which correspond with any special units they can reserve for themselves (scipii mainly)

with your last quesion concerning winning the game.. a long campaign always has you being required to hold 50 regions and controlling rome in order to score victory.. A short campaign requires 15 regions (i think) with you being required to destroy/outlast one or several factions in your vicinity..

hope this helps you....

Hi again ilikethisgame5,
For your first question it really does depend. The best faction, in my opinion, to start with is the House of Julii, which, has an easier foe to combat - Gaul and the other Barbarians and, unlike the Brutii, you don't have to wait till the Marian reform before being able to defeat your opponent. If you want a harder campaign, yet more wealth you should try the Scipii. It's hard at first, but if you go and take Kydonia in Crete after the conquest of Western North Africa and the destruction of Spain you can follow the senate missions and eventually become very rich against the factions which have set up over in that almighty region. The Brutii are very hard, for me anyway, you have to fight the phalanx wielding troops of Greece which poses a large challenge - in Rome: Total War phalanxes are way too over-powered - yet, if you succeed, you can become the richest faction very quickly.

To expand on what Ring_Master\ said, you can set a Short Campaign on the button on the bottom left of the screen. All you have to do is click it, and it will show your mission objectives next to it. For every faction the mission is the same on the long campaign - capture Rome and hold fifty province, yet on the short campaign everything is different. As the Julii your mission will be to hold fifteen provinces and outlast/destroy Gaul, as the Brutii your mission will be to hold fifteen provinces and outlast/destroy Macedon and The Greek Cities and as the Scipii your mission will be to hold fifteen provinces and outlast Carthage and Numidia. Of course other factions are working to their objectives and, unless you meet your's first, if they meet their victory conditions then you lose the campaign.

Hope this helps you, good luck, cheers!

Hi IceWolf,
An AAR mean "after action report". Here are a few examples:
The saga of the Tribus Verres AAR (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=78850)
Voltaire's Folly (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=78045)
Chronicle of Laurentiu (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=79973)
BI - Defensive Frank Campaign (Pictures) (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=77526)

I beleive that ilikethisgame5 mis-spelled Pictures and insted made the accident of typing Pitues.

Good luck with your AAR, cheers!

Kydonia, modern day Crete is pretty rich, yet not because it will bring you in lots of cash, although it can do with the right trading buildings, yet more to provide an army base, it grows quickly if you occupy it, for you too invade the richest parts of the world - Asia Minior and the surrounding region. The best option is take North Africa first, that is Carthage and Numidia, that keeps the senate nice and happy.

BTW Icewolf and ILikeThisGame5, Omanes prefers to be called Omanes, not alex, as Omanes is his first name on the forum. He once had a go at me in a pm for calling him alex.

just a friendly note of caution

Hi General,
It was just a polite request, apologies if you saw it as an attack or found it insulting.
