Hi guineawolf,
I don't think there are any real large differences. However, from experience, light infantry is usually faster moving compared to heavy infantry henceforth making it better at running down fleeing enemy units, although this could be a separate statistic all together. It also seems, to me, that heavy infantry units are generally good against light infantry. I am quite sure that it has nothing to do with armour piercing, that is definitely a totally different statistic all together.
In your great Carthaginian armies, you made a good choice there, you should not really bother with main-line barracks infantry, especially post Marian. The best option is often to build temples to Baal till you get to the highest level. That enables you to train Sacred Band infantry which is the best unit Carthage has access too. It has the capacity to beat an almighty post-marian late legionary cohort with no trouble. It is less effective against the mighty Roman Praetorians, being often evenly matched with the Sacred Band having the upper hand slightly and against the Roman greatest unit, the Urban Cohort, it struggles to overpower and often needs support from other units of similar strength.
Good luck beating up Rome! Cheers!

Troops 'killed' by light weapons seem to heal more often.
