View Full Version : very important question about imperial reform

I played as Romani and till 230 and I felt it was time to get Marian reform. I followed the instructions in a thread how to get the reforms sooner https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=80502
The problem is that for Marian Reform is relatively easy to find a family member that is
Sharp/Charismatic/Vigorous
Popularis
Consul or Ex-Consul
Has Influence and Command > 2
(I prepared him in a couple of years, but it was worth it, becasue now I have a very good faction heir.)
But when it comes to get Imperial reform in an earlier year, but keeping the character condition I found myself in difficulty. Somewhere on the site I found that there are some contritions for a character to become the trigger for the imperial reform:
"Sharp/Charismatic/Vigorous
At least Skilled Bureaucrat
At least Arrogans
At least Expert Recruiter
Can't be Selfless
If these conditions are met, the general will receive a trait telling he wants to seize power.
Make him the Faction Heir and as soon as he becomes the leader the reforms will happen."
I searched all my generals (and there aren't few) but I could only find the skilled burocrat trait at 2 of them. But what about the others? I want to ask some of the creators of EB if they really thought about the probabilities of getting such traits in one person.
PS
MAYBE THERE IS SOMEONE WHO COULD HELP ME WITH A LIST OF TRAITS, BESIDES export_descr_character_traits.

When I was trying to make an Emporer, I found I guy who was only missing the superbus one (he may have only had one level of recruiter too, I forget). But since it seemed so hard to get a guy with all the needed things, I just cheated and gave him Superbus 2.

Well you've only been playing for 40 years, I'd wait another 20.
In any case, yes we did consider the likelyhood, i.e. quite low. We consider that appropriate.

a other question...what means "Popularis"?
i have searched all my Generals (over 40) and cannot find even one what hast a "Popularis" Trait, not the Gouverneurs in the City´s not the Field General´s even if i have 2 with Triumph who have all the other required Traits and abilitys...strange

Popularis is a political stance, roughly it translates as "liberal" or perhaps "for the people" or "progressive" what it really means though is that the character goes against the Optimates, the ruling elite.

ach now...it means Popularis=Popular, ok its clear now but how to gain it as trait? is it a random Trait? since i have look even..as said over 40 General´s and Gouverneur´s...i have 7 Optimate´s and the other have nothing..not Optimate´s and not Popular....its the only thing that stops my Marian Reform for the true Legion´s...cheating in data´s to gain it...mhm

The highest probability for acquiring it is through the worship of Ceres. Next come Plebeians that are not Optimates.

I've noticed that a lot of my great generals get 'Popularis'. But that might be due to the fact I select great guys to be head generals and not do to them actually being generals. Is there any effect of things like 'Conquering Hero'?

please enlighten me how you did it. I have never been able to cheat with traits and ancillaries because I always get the message Character not found. Could you tell me the correct spelling of the characters name with an example. For instace no matter how I type: Marcus Aurelius Antoninus, or Marcus_Aurelius_Antoninus, or MarcusAurelius Antoninus or MarcusAureliusAntoninus I receive the same message.

Thanks MarcusAureliusAntoninus for such a short reply. I see that you are one of the spirits of the forums concerning EB. It is a good thing youy make time for all of us asking questions.

I answered this in depth on the beta tester forum, I'll just post quotes from that thread... I don't know if it answers everything, but for my name it would be "Marcvsavrelivs Antoninvs".
First off titles like Africanus don't count (birth name has to be used).
As you said it is "Firstmiddle Last".
For traits you have to know the exact spelling (and capitalization) for the trait group.
Like "Wonderful Administrator" would be "GoodAdministrator 5".
Usually the traits are crushed together, each new word capitalized (unlike names which have not capitalization when crushed together).
The level of the trait is a number after the trait name and a space (no number will give you level 1)(negatives (-1) can be used to take away a trait you don't like).
Example: If I wanted to give "Pvblivs Cornelivs Africanvs" (born "Pvblivs Cornelivs Scipio") the highest level of administrator skill I would write:
give_trait "Pvblivscornelivs Scipio" GoodAdministrator 5
P.S. Imperator would be "Imperator 1" and the title traits would be "RomanConquerorGaul 2" (switching out "Gaul" for "Britain", "Germania", "Carthage", "Macedonia", "Dacia", "Syria", or "Parthia". (I think thats all of them.))
You do indeed need the last name.
If there is only one guy with the first name, in the history of your game, then the game will recongnized only the first name (first two actually).
You have to put quotes around the guy's whole name so that it recognizes it as one item and don't try to give some guy the non-exsistant trait of "Asina" or something.
Because the game only recognizes first names such a small amount of the time and since there could be a guy with the same first names, I always include the last name (all in quotes).
give_trait "Pvblivscornelivs Scipio" GoodAdministrator 5
As for identifying the traits you want, it may be difficult. My example earlier in this thread: You need Arrogans to get an emporer, but giving a guy the trait "Arrogans" won't work. Arrogans is the second level of the "Superbus" trait. You would have to do:
give_trait "Pvblivscornelivs Scipio" Superbus 2

thanks again. I didn't try it for I have a deadline in presenting my PhD thesis, but as soon as I find some time I will try it. I usually use add_money and Process_cq when I am too tired to wait for a building. But with this complex mod as EB is I feel much better now if I cannot see all the conditions for the imperial reform. And I will wait for another 20 years for it.

after 0.81 and now with 0.81a too, everytime i conquer a city with a Govermentbuilding (as Roman) lets say, even now Sinope from Carthago with their Trade Colony (Gov2)...its going destroyed as before but the Stats of the Gov change from Carthago to Roman Gov 2 stats, to Romanized Province..if i repair them they look to work exactly as the Roman Gov2....in 0.80 they were useless....a bug or a feature with 0.81?
Obviously someone from the EB team will have to answer that one, but I would think it was a bug, since the time taken to install a government is an intentional part of gameplay. This would sidestep that.
Yes that is a cheat, though unintentional, and there is nothing that we can do, short of creating a gov complex for each faction (which we kind of had for 0.74).

Are you sure they were useless in 080? They have always been the same building tier as all other factions.

i think so, in 0.80 after conquer you were able to repair them but they have had no stats after that...like barracks earlier and now.

I think you may be misremembering. All government buildings have, since 0.72 at least, displayed your own faction's capabilities in the building card as soon as you conquer a settlement.
