I just got the strategy guide, and to my amazement, I see a Russian unit called the Gulay Gorod. I have NEVER seen it before (perhaps it shows up later).
Does anyone know of this unit? From the description, it is a wagon crossbow unit.

That unit is not in the game. IMO, never get any strategy guides as they tend to be rubbish and outdated once patching starts. A few searches on any good forum will get you any information a strategy guide has

I understand, but I'm a sucker for strategy guides. I don't know why. For this one, I like having the stats right in front of me in a pretty form, I guess :laugh4:
When doing a search in the forums, I found that the unit IS available, but the wagon units can really only be used in the battle editor. I think they exist somewhere in the files, but if they are activated for the game they only appear as a crossbow unit.
I read it too in a few prereviews. It the russian name for a battle wagon defensive formation.
I read in https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=79007&highlight=war+wagons (this tread) that the war wagons are in the game, but their animations are not completed.

would the war wagon be a wagon with arrow slits or is it a wagon lager?
it seems like an interesting unit they were trying to come up with.
if it is a wagon lager would be something a crossbow units would use as a special ability?
or is it actually some kind of medieval fighting vehicle.

just had a crazy idea of seeing vehicle carnage such as seen in old playstation games such as twisted metal :dizzy2: very out of sync image....
And just to think of all the people whining on how unbalanced it would make the game for one faction to have a medieval tank, but never less sounds interesting.
And did such a thing exist?

like i said in an earlier post. leonardo da vinci drew up designs for a medieval tank and it seems that somoene did actually use a protected vehicle during the renaisance but i will have to do some research.
i suppose in a way a siege ram is a type of armored vehicle or even a siege tower. so it really isnt too far fetched.
what i would like to see is a warhammer steam tank

Actually, the war wagons were just used for defense. It is a crossbow unit, and the wagons can be circled for protection against charges and arrow fire. More of a defensive enplacement, not a tank.
I assume either:
a.) The crossbowmen would wheel the wagons around like siege equipment and then set them up, or
b.) The circle would have to be set up before the battle began and left there.
The war wagon was a gun platform as well. It is a peasant cart used in the supply train with a few boards nailed on one side. The Hungarians used it against the Turkish to take the brunt of their cavalry archers. Then the Turkish Janissaries picked the idea and used it back on the Hungarians.

ive created a unit of them in the campaign but i have yet to use them in combat. they will probably be skinless since im playing the papacy right now. but it will be neat to see what it looks like.
besides the elephant rocketeers and this one i wander if there are any more hidden easter eggs in the unit files?

well i guess it aint completed like someone said. all they seem to be are elite crossbow units with high fighting stats. i think the range is right in there with pavise crossbowmen.no wagons to speak of or special abilities.

I think these war wagons were used by the Hussites under John Ziska but my history might be muddled up. Pretty sure this medieval tank like thing existed though.
