Hey all,

Awesome forum. I'm new here, and I'm not really from Germany, I'm an Australian, though I have Prussian, German and Irish descent.

Hope I have a good time here and meet you all :2thumbsup:

Cheers!

Yours,

Max :)

welcome Maximillian von Hapsburg,

just a few pointers:

1) Dont ask when you will become a member or why you cannot post in certain areas.

2)Dont flame anybody unless you have hard indisputable evidence.

3) Dont forget to enjoy yourself!!

Come on, don't be so harsh on our new fellow Orgah.

1) If you have questions regarding your "junior member"-status, you'll find your answers here (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=45416) or in Caius excellent guide (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=78282). If you still have any questions, feel free to post them here or just open a new thread in the entrance hall. If you want to discuss a subject, but you can't access the appropriate forum yet (example: you want to discuss history, but you can't post in the Monastery yet), feel free to open a thread in the Entrance Hall. A moderator will move it to the appropriate forum after a while (probably at the time you became a member).

2) Be nice and gentle, just common sense, nothing special and you'll be fine. You'll find out that the Org is a nice and friendly community.

3) Have fun!

4) Camels stink. A hostile attitude towards camels is the only correct attitude. And don't listen to Martok, he is, well, he is... He likes Camels  Poor guy, we should feel sorry for him...

Maximillian von Hapsburg, welcome (again!) to the Org. Good of you to join up with our merry little band! ~ Just follow AndresTheCunning's advice, especially this bit:
Be nice and gentle, just common sense, nothing special and you'll be fine. You'll find out that the Org is a nice and friendly community. That's all that's required to become a full member here (that, and simply being patient for a couple weeks or so). ~:) Also, Andres and Omanes Alexandrapolites the Idiot are practically our official greeters here, so feel free to harrass them if you have questions. ~D

Oh, shush. So I'm a little obsessed with watering and feeding them. Better I have people think me odd for it, than Mithrandir's wrath at not taking care of his precious animals. :egypt:

By the way, I appreciate the camel pic so that I could add it to my sig. That was awfully nice of you. ~;p

I appreciate your remark, but I think you are mistaken.

I'm only a member since july 2006. It would be a bit too early, wouldn't it? And it would not be fair towards the massive amount of other members who deserve that honor much more than I do.

It's not that much effort to say hi and to post a linky. The people who write guides, those who are helping other members with technical issues, those that write long, enjoyable stories, people who manage to prevent a flame war by making a well-thought post, people who spend alot of time in making one extremely intresting history-related post, people who organise and host forum games, putting alot of effort in it, just for the pleasure of a bunch of people they never met, those who make mods and make them available for us, for free, the people who spend alot of time in fixing bugs in TW games and make their solutions available, unaffected by self-interest, ... those are the ones who deserve that honor.

They make fewer posts and therefore their presence is not noticed as much, but they put much and much more effort in their posts and their work for the Org community than I do by just saying "hi, you can find an answer for you questions there and there".

Besides, I wouldn't survive the swabbling cloth nor the bad Viagra-jokes :laugh4:

Hi Maximillian von Hapsburg,
You can change your avatar here (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/profile.php?do=editavatar) inside your almighty user CP. Good luck, cheers!

BTW, pevergreen, I too appreciate your kind remark, yet I agree with Andres, although I think he should take Senior Membership more than I should. Of course I have only been here since 12/01/07, although I did lurk for a few weeks previously! There are much more deserving people than me, people such as Andres, the modders that slave away in their homes 24/7 for no true gain of their own and the big time historians and mafia hosters. On me, humble old me, I feel that Senior Membership would be a little bit disrespective to fellow peoples of the Org and other such great and famous members who contribute to the TW community alot more than I ever have done or ever could. I don't really think I ever will be deserving of the title, especially not at the moment. Thanks for the comment, however.

Speaking about Mithrandir. It's been ages since I saw him around. I hope he is OK and nothing bad happened to him.
He still drops in every now and then, although he rarely posts anything as of late. I suspect he's been here in hidden mode more often than not. (That's mostly a hunch on my part, however.)

He did tell me a few months ago that he was going to be quite busy with real life, and my feeling is that the situation hasn't significantly changed for him yet. So while Mithrandir is still around, I think it's still going to be a while before we see him on a regular basis again.

Actually I don't know, that could be something born in the "Hail new members thread". Or something even older. I think that only Martok could explain. Oh, BTW, the camel's "roar" is almost exactly a wookie's!!! Camels are supposed to be very effective against cavalry, in MTW.

Heh. The whole bit with camels actually goes back a few years -- ah, memories!

The origins of it is as follows: For those here that haven't played MTW, just keep in mind the following fact about camel units in Medieval (1):
- They receive a combat bonus when fighting in desert provinces.
- Horse units in MTW also suffer a morale penalty when fighting against them (because of their unpleasant smell).
- Camel units are both cheap *and* have modest building requirements.

Thus, recruiting camels in multiplayer battles gave one a pretty effective fighting force for not much money; and in the singleplayer campaign, the Muslim factions can quickly churn out camels to help buff up their armies. :2thumbsup:

Anyway, when the MTW multiplayer community was more active, Mithrandir was a frequent combatant online. Fairly early on his multiplayer career, he became a rather fervent proponent of using camels in battle -- he was particularly fond of the Almohads' Berber Camels (along with the rest of the Almos' unit roster). Ever since then, he's become famous for injecting the occasional camel comment/reference into his posts.

As for why I myself am such a fan of camels, that mostly stems from the simple fact that I play the Egyptians quite frequently in my MTW campaigns (they're my second favorite faction after the Spanish). While I still don't consider myself a true "expert", I have been playing the game long enough (over 4 years now) that I'm keenly aware of the role my beloved Bedouin Camel Warriors often play in my Eggy campaigns. Aside from Spanish Jinnettes, I can't think of another unit that has played a more crucial role in my armies.

And now with Gunner Camels in M2TW, you can create twice as much havoc, from far away, with the bonuses against cavalry still in effect.
