Greetings Europa Barbarorum fans.

https://img254.imageshack.us/img254/5659/081aannouncementul6.jpg

Here's a hotfix that corrects some bugs & CTDs that were discovered after the release of 0.81. Unfortunately, it isn't savegame compatible so if you have a kick ass campaign, you should finish that one before installing. As said this is a hotfix and does not add anything new at all, just fixes some bugs that crept in. Below are links to the hotfix itself followed by a list of changes and below it are detailed installation instructions.

Here are the links for the v0.81a hotfix:

Dead Link: EB FTP Patch (https://www.europabarbarorum.com/ccount11/click.php?id=17)
EB FTP Full installer (https://www.europabarbarorum.com/ccount11/click.php?id=18)
Torrent Full installer (https://www.europabarbarorum.com/ccount11/click.php?id=21)

A new EDB fix for those who wish to test it!! (ftp://europabarbarorum.org/EBv81a_New_EDB.zip)

Note: The hotfix file ("EB FTP Patch") has been removed until such time as we can get it working properly (in many cases it seems to delete the entire EB file set instead of upgrading it). So as an interim step, here is the link to the zip file we used for the last internal build (https://www.europabarbarorum.com/ccount11/click.php?id=20). It has all the same files (except the Readme), and it should work for anybody who hasn't already used the previous Hotfix installer. The zip file is designed to be installed into the RTW Root directory (i.e the one above "EB") and will automatically place all files in the correct folders.

WARNING - If you are a zip file noob and the above information is unclear and you need explicit handholding, don't even try this. Just get the EB v.81a Full Installer (@ 370MB) and install it on a clean RTW 1.5 build.

List of fixes included in the Release:

- Solved the Lusotannan "Can't Save" Bug
- Fix for the Rebelling City CTD
- Includes v.81a compatible map.rwm file
- Return of the EB Oasis
- Added 20 new UI Cards

- Epilektoi Hoplitai are now recruitable by KH
- Recruitment zones for Pezhetairoi, Hypaspistai, and Pheraspidai are all adjusted

- Fixed a few Resource Icons (Nikaia silver mine and Epeirote copper mine)
- Typos fixed in various files (not comprehensive)

Past experience indicates that many of the reported problems with EB involve bad installations of either RTW or EB. If you have already installed EB v.81 and are not having any problems with it, then you can install the hotfix on top of your v.81 build. However, the hotfix is NOT COMPATIBLE with previous save games, and you WILL have problems if you try to use an old save game with this new build.

If you are having problems with your old v.81 campaign or this is your first taste of EB, then follow these instructions EXACTLY and you should not have a problem:

1. Install RTW 1.0
2. Update RTW with the v1.3 Patch
3. Update RTW with the v1.5 Patch
4. Load a game to make sure RTW is working (i.e. it should list the version number on one of the screens - see "Note" below for details), and after confirming the version number, shut it down
5. Copy this entire folder to a new directory and rename THE COPY (for example, instead of "Rome: Total War" it would be "Rome-EB")
6. Install EB v.81 into the new "Rome-EB" directory
7. Load a game to make sure EB v.81 is working (you MUST load the game using the desktop shortcut created during the installation process), and after confirming that it loads properly, shut it down
8. Install the EB v.81a Hotfix into the new "Rome-EB" directory
9. Load a game using the EBv81a desktop shortcut created during the installation process (The EB Menu screen will have "ver. 0.8.1a" imprinted on the bottom left)

Note: If you have a newer version of RTW, or just aren't sure what version it is, be sure to load it and check. Launch a game of "vanilla", and at the RTW Menu screen, select "Options". The version number will appear on the top right of the next screen.

Well there goes my two days off... Thanks alot EB Team! :2thumbsup: It would seem my pushers of RTW goodness are unrelenting and my addiction is turning for the worse. There is no hope for me anymore as I have started to make mini modifications myself...

Great work guy's . This goes for all of you working on this fabulous mod.
I've only got one ( maybe dumb ) question.
How far is EB currently in development ? What I mean is for example are most units already in the game or just 20-50-80 % and /or are you planning a lot of other adjustments big or small ? I'm pretty new to the game joint last week. Please dont mind my english I'm from the Netherlands.
Please keep up the good work. :2thumbsup:

We're roughly at 350 units of a possible 500 (keep in mind that vanilla had something like 100). And there are also a lot of beautiful new Standard Bearers and Generals coming (both units and the individual leaders themselves). And we definitely have some major new features in the works. Quite a few, actually. So yes, there's a lot more to come, but in the meantime EB v.81a is what most mods and companies would call a "finished product". But not us! :2thumbsup:

No update for the custom battle/MP EDU or the backup EDU ~:mecry:

There was a big EDU update and it was submitted somewhat late in the process. So holding up the entire patch just to get those two items wasn't a good idea. That doesn't mean they can't be updated and posted as a separate download - assuming somebody wants to marry up the features of the new EDU with those of the old specialized ones. (Hint: Winmerge is your friend).

I hate to do this, but the installer won't work for me. It works fine until I press 'install' and then it vanishes. Now when I start the game it says "Error loading mount database". I tried redownloading a few times and I tested installing it in an empty folder. It installed 227 files and 50.8 MB of stuff. I'll install the full thing from the scratch and I'll ask if there's more problems. Just to let you know there are people who can screw up even the most simplified patch installing.

Rilder
03-05-2007, 21:55
Eh I didnt get the vanishing thing but when i boot up i get the error loading mount database and after clicking ok it says

"Script error in data/descr_mount.txt at line 100, collumn 1

Could not find battle model for mount 'Camel' "

I think I'll continue my romani campaign for the moment, its the first time Ive ever got to the marian reforms (since vanilla) and its going so well.

One question - is this compatible if you are using BI.exe? Ie, can you patch on top if you are running using BI?

This really sounds like one of two things:

1) Installed the Hotfix somewhere other than on top of a v.81 build.

2) Installed the Hotfix on top of something less than the full v.81 build.

Edit: If somebody has successfully installed it (other than an EB Team Member), please post here.

hmm will you ever bring back the senate i mean just for show, it would be cool to see if you could chose who would elect certain generals or family members purely for role play purposes
it would be really quite cool
you could add it to cathage as well, seeing as they had a senate

purely for show, none of those stupid little missions

and if your capital is sacked - a general could get a dictator trait (going back to another topic i read) untill you restore order

but i must be dreaming, oh i hope not :X

I installed eb 0.81 again then installed 0.81a
7 mb takes about 20-30 minutes ( too long ?)
it validates install/removes files/copies new files/updates register/ removes files(again ) SHORTCUT DISAPPEARS / copies new files / install finished i'm able to look at read me en faq. AND THIS IS STRANGE THE NEW SHORTCUT DIRECTS ME TO THE FAQ AT THIS FORUM.

is there something i'm doing wrong or can you tell me where eb.exe went
cause this is missing too. ( it is not working anyway )

i hope this message will help.

ps. i'm not angry / the words in bold are just the important ones.:dizzy2:

0.81 over RTW 1.5

maybe it removes too many files RTW 1.5 has 6789 files 2,37 GB/ EB 0.81a has 6961 files 2,42 gb

Hmm...

If you install the patch, and get errors try to delete map.rwm.

You will 99.9% not be able to Multiplay then, but to me deleting map.rwm always seems to help somehow...

Could somebody with errors after installing the patch try?

Kull

Guys - Just to be sure, I uninstalled v.81a (i had a full up install):

- Next I copied a clean v.81 build.
- Then I installed the hotfix on top of the copy.
- I no longer had a shortcut after uninstalling, so I copied an old one and modified it.
- Launched the Game from the new shortcut
- No problems, everything worked

So there's not a problem with the Hotfix. All the files are correct and they install to the right place and everything does work.

You might doublecheck your desktop shortcuts to make sure they are referencing the -mod.

After reinstalling EB i get the same "gladius-error" as mentioned above; i think it is the bi.exe that does not work with 0.81a. Up to now i did not have tried the full 0.81a installer, always just the patch.

Has anybody managed it to run 0.81 over the bi.exe? If so, what is the recommended way of istalling it?

Thanks in advance!

I get the same error with the camel. The only descr_mount file I can find is in the vanilla data folder though. That hasn't changed in the patch has it? As a side note, deleting that file leads to another error saying that saba is an invalid owner in another descr file.

Was hoping it wasn't the new map.rwm. Glad to see it isn't. It only removes files from a temporary directory after installing, not from the RTW directory. My v.81c noted above has roughly 3.7GB, while the vanilla RTW 1.5 has roughly 2.4GB. So you are missing a LOT of files....in fact, it's apparent that the hotfix is sitting alone atop a 1.5 install.

For those having problems, i don't know why. But if you can install RTW, patch it up to v1.5, and then download and install the Full-up v.81a (it has EVERY EB file and doesn't need patches or hotfixes or anything), that should work.

Also, PLEASE READ THE README FILE!!

Speaking of which, hopefully nobody is installing the Hotfix in the RTW/EB folder, yes?

Reinstalled 0.81 works like a charm. Then the same error after applying the hotfix

1) So you reinstalled v.81 and loaded a game and it worked?

2) Then you installed the Hotfix and tried to load a game and got the errors?

3) What directory is this file sitting in? (Europa Barbarorum v081a.rtf)

4) Did you use the same shortcut to launch both games?

Hegix

1) yes

2) Yes, the error shows during the starting screen

3) In the RTW root with the exes, not the EB folder

4) The same shortcut

Am busy trying the Full Install. You can simply dump that one onto your previous EB install - as it will remove older EB files before installing the new ones. So, let me get back to you later or try the Full Install yourself. (The FTP server does an outstanding job with about 160kb/s transfer rate. :2thumbsup: )

Yes. The only thing I can think of is that some of you guys are getting corrupted downloads. You try and download the hotfix again (it's very small) and try that. I'll see about getting a link to the zip file we used to create the installer. That's faster than a full-up installation download.

Btw, for those having problems, just try installing the hotfix to a folder of it's own, say on the desktop. Install the files, then manually drag them to the RTW folder where EB is installed. That's what I did.

For those of you who can't seem to get the Hotfix file to work, here is the link to the zip file we used for the last internal build (https://www.europabarbarorum.com/ccount11/click.php?id=20). It has all the same files (except the Readme), and so I'd be interested if this somehow works for you. The file is designed to be installed into the RTW Root directory (i.e the one above "EB") and will automatically place all files in the correct folders.

WARNING - If you are a zip file noob and the above information is unclear and you need explicit handholding, don't even try this. Just get the Full V.81a Installation (@ 370MB) and install it on a clean RTW 1.5 build.

Hey EB Team, I just wanted to thank you for your devotion to this project. I forwarded your work to a classics professor of mine here at Dartmouth and he was, to say the least, impressed with what you've done. I do make my own shortcut each time though, and put it directly in the directory the rtw.exe file is in, so I don't mix it up with any of the other copies of EB on my harddrive.

I downloaded the hotfix over my previous v.8.1 and it seems to work just fine ... the install guide helped me through, you just have to find your own EB file if you changed it from the original rome total war as I did. Did I have to delete the map again it didn't say so and worked so should I now?

Thanks Foot!

Thanks to the entire EB team by the way!

No you shouldn't have to, it will allow you to play multiplayer with others with 0.81a

It seems like the issue has been resolved, but when it says cannot find the battlefield model for the camled(is that what it is?), the model for the camels is missing in the descr_model_battle file. So just put it in there, and it should work.

I may be showing up too late to help  , and I may be wrong, but from my experiences, it is most likely missing in descr_model_battle. So check.

Thanks, but that is definitely not the issue. If we had something missing in DMB, then the hotfix would have broken the mod during internal testing. Plus there's a host of different "mssing files" being reported, and most people aren't having any problem at all. So it seems to be installation issues, and probably a bunch of different ones at that.

I can report a gimped install, I'm afraid and I installed EB 0.81a on top of 0.81, with an old internal build on top of that but otherwise, as you know, it was a virgin install.

So the install in gimped and there's no uninstall, so I'm wiping EB off and starting again with the full download. My shortcut also dissapeared to be replaced by a link to the FAQ.

Edit: I can't get the unistall option, looks like 0.81a removed my build.

The .81a patch borked my install as well. On start up I got the vanilla splash screen plus the fs_gladius error. Checked the RTW folder and it's size was decreased to 2.4gb as well. Wasn't using the wrong installer as I blew the previous ones away right after use. The .81a patch is erasing some parts of the EB install.

The full .81a install over a clean copy of 1.5 is working fine.

Well, I think we have identified the root cause of all the reported problems. HOW you are getting those problems is still unclear, however. Let's review the facts as we know them:

1) All the error messages are consistent with missing files.

2) In all reported problem cases, the full install works, but not the hotfix.

3) People who reported error messages and then used my zip file said it didn't solve the problem.

4) A number of folks have reported that there is no desktop icon or else the one they had disappeared.

What all these have in common is they are consistent with a complete uninstall of EB. So the question is, how is that happening? The obvious answer would be that having downloaded the file called EB081a-hotfix.exe, instead people are clicking on one of the earlier builds such as EB08-setup.exe, EB081-full.exe, or EB081-patch.exe. These files, confronted with an existing installation, are then uninstalling your whole EB build.

The other possibility is that the hotfix build is uninstalling instead of installing, but we can't even begin to make it do that without installing the hotfix first (and even then, it warns you quite explicitly).

All I can say is, please READ THE INSTALLER MESSAGES, and report anything that looks odd. Thanks.

Edit1: I tested the "wrong installer version" theory and suffice it to say you would have to be a moron of exceptional moronitude to "accidentally" delete EB using those files. So that rules out half of you. (j/k)

Edit2: We have pulled the hotfix installer until we can figure out why it is doing what it seems to be doing. The Full Version remains active, as that is confirmed to work. Also, anybody who hasn't deleted their EB build could use my zip file (posted above) to quickly upgrade a working v.81 install to v.81a.

I had the same problem when attempting the fix.

I;
1. Used the hotfix file.
2. Installed it into the proper directory.
3. Checked the EB directory and discovered that all the text files except for 3-4 were missing, in addition to a much lower number of folders.

I then uninstalled, reinstalled EB, and attempted the .81 -> hotfix once more. After having the same problem over a clean installation, assuming I had done something wrong, I then uninstalled again and used the full version, which worked with no problems.

I can only assume that I would have suffered the same problem as others had I attempted to start the game. I apologize, and wish I could offer a greater detail on why it happened.

Edit: Clarification, the EB\data directory is what I was referring to.

I'm NOT a computer genius (noob actually), but the PATCH (not full version) worked fine with me =)
1. Made a copy of mine 0.81 folder to desktop;
2. Installed 0.81a patch in it;
3. Ran it.
4. Created my own shortcut.
Everything's fine =)

...but!
1. Illyrian Thorakitai amount is still 100;
2. Different phalanx units stats still messed up, infamous elite Kleruchoi Agemata just one of them, not to mention godlike Chaeonian Agema (the one and only phalanx with 14 armor), or "reformed" Hysteroi, who have slihtely better shields than Pezhetairoi;
3. KH new general unit does not look like their picture but has definitely the same skin as spartans. Could somebody, please, name me the subfolder where that RICH_spartan skin is?;
4. All elephantes have only 4 hitpoints left and their armor is decreased greatly. I start to suspect that EB team secretly hates elephants =)

Full Install over a (slightly modified) copy of EB 0.8 works fine. As I'd thought. For the main part I suppose this is because the installer seems to remove my prior build first before installing it's contents.

EDIT: So if anyone who wishes to use the patch also would like to create his own shortcuts manually? You may find EB 0.81a running without any faults whatsoever.

Keeping a clean RTW 1.5 handy for copying purposes is great, especially if you like to mod and alter the build. That way if you blow it up, it's easy to trash the whole thing and creat a new build without having to go through the whole uninstall reinstall thing. Also good for those who play multiple mods or even like to have a clean EB build alongside the one they are tweaking. But if you only play EB, and don't do much to it, and it's already very clean, then go ahead and overwrite your basic RTW build.

My hotfix seems to work ok except for when I first did it, I was trying to launch from my .bat file which overwrote the \data EDU file.
I got some 'missing' errors so first second thing I did was check if the backup & custom/mp EDUs had been updated & they hadn't so I reinstalled the hotfix over the top again to get the EDU back.
No problems since.

RTW 1.5 + EB 0.80 + .81 patch + .81a hotfix.

I wonder if people might be trying to go from 0.80 straight to .81a without 0.81?

Thaatu
03-06-2007, 09:57
I did have 0.81, but could it have been something like the installer not getting permission to overwrite some files? I know none about none, but that's my theory.

I installed the hotfix 3 times over a clean rtw 1.5 + eb 0.81(full), all 3 times it removed almost completly eb0.81 (from 3,65 gb to 2,42 gb).
Install of the hotfix took approx. 25 min. and it was removing files for about 15 min. Maybe the guy's who installed the hotfix (via the installer ) and it worked right were doing this over a rtw 1.5 + eb 0.80 + eb 0.81 patch or rtw + bi.

I don't know if this is helping , but you never know ( it's strange that the same hotfix is working for one and notfor the other) I followed all instructions by the book and couldnt get it to work.

The full install 0.81a is working fine.

Thanks eb-members for your quick replies and for doing such a great job with this mod, it's fantastic.

I have just finished installing (on a fresh RTW1.5/BI1.6) the EB0.81 + Patch0.81a. Running the patch took a long time, most of which it was "removing files". Now I look into my EB/Data folder and see that there are only the following files:

descr_model_battle.txt
descr_rebel_factions.txt
descr_settlement_plant.txt
export_descr_buildings.txt
export_descr_unit.txt

And only the following sub-folders:

loading_screen
menu
scripts
text
UI
world

Which is obviously missing a whole load of important stuff. The music files for example.

Good morning EBers

just some additional info

I found that post the 0.81a hotfix - if I reinstalled 0.81 over the top - the game strats working again fine - v0.81 of coarse - so I would agree the 0.81a installer appears to be removing certain 0.81 files, files added as part of the 0.81 install it would seem.

just doing what I can to fill in the blanks

keep up the good work

Why is a shortcut to the FAQ page created?

The team gets a HUGE number of repeat questions, most of which are answered in the FAQ. So the Hotfix is designed to drop a link to the FAQ on your desktop, in the hope that people will be more inclined to consult it.

The Team, as always has done a fantastic job getting the Hotfix prepared and tested. But sadly, the "simple patch" seems to have had a built-in flaw that caused it to uninstall EB. I can assure you guys we DID test this before releasing it - we always do. But as many of you know from first hand experience, sometimes the Hotfix installer works PERFECTLY - and that was our experience duing the internal test. I can get the FTP link to start downloading, but the download dies after a little while. I think it has to do with the fact that I'm currently computing in the People's Republic of China on a university system.

The FTP must be overtaxed or too distant from some people. Maybe it should be uploaded to a third-party server somewhere for some people. My internet sucks, or I would (plus time to sleep).

I would suggest to those of you that are getting corrupt downloads, or you that are having problems with the download quiting mid download, to get a download manager/resumer. GetRight is a common one. That should restart stopped downloads and help them not quit. If the problem is the download turning into a trickle and then stopping, it may not help...

P.S. I think there was a problem making the torrent or there would be one, IIRC.

Kull,

I dont think theres a person here who doesnt have the greatest respect and admiration for what the EB team has achieved. The work speaks for itself. I think we all understand that when it comes to computers and in particular modding - $&!* happens. I think people are just eager to help in anyway they can by reporting small problems before they become big ones, and I guess the only problem is this mod is so great, excitement quickly turns to disappoitment when they cant play the latest version. And as in all cases you guys were well prepared with an alternate. Its a no blame culture, and if you guys are to blame for anything its creating a mod that has re-addicted people to game they had long ago shelved, and being too efficient and professional, thus when something does mess up - people go into a panic :laugh4:

Note: The hotfix file ("EB FTP Patch") has been removed until such time as we can get it working properly (in many cases it seems to delete the entire EB file set instead of upgrading it). So as an interim step, here is the link to the zip file we used for the last internal build. It has all the same files (except the Readme), and it should work for anybody who hasn't already used the previous Hotfix installer. The zip file is designed to be installed into the RTW Root directory (i.e the one above "EB") and will automatically place all files in the correct folders.

They have different purposes:

1) The "full" is designed to go on top of a clean v1.5 RTW install (but it can update a previous EB installation, too).

2) The Patch is no longer available - if you downloaded it, don't use it.

3) The zip is designed to go on top of a working EB v.81 build.

v.81a has the entire patch, including the Hotfix. The zip file contains the 3rd internal version of the hotfix, which is the same as the released hotfix, which is already part of the v.81a full install.

So no, you don't need to add the zip file to the full install, although you won't break anything if you do.

Thanks for the quick response

I forget where, but someone once said that our website was blacklisted on some shady filtering application as a "peer-to-peer poisoner" or some such nonsense. Perhaps you have got one of those installed? We like to track the number of downloads, so we prefer if you get the links to work rather than post an alternate file.

Thanks bovi :) Yes it was my firewall that blocked your site and prevent me downloading the Hotfix.

Thank you for the help

It is meant to be this way. Check the FAQ about Roman reforms for more information.

So you're supposed to wait for the next reform?

What is EB2?

The EB Mod designed for M2TW (similar in many respects to this, the EB1 mod, but taking advantage of the new features in M2TW).

Note that you should use 0.81a V2 now. Please refer to the installation guide (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=80270).

Remember to use the EB desktop icon. Normal methods of playing RTW will get you vanilla RTW.

yea I have the v2 version...
and I tried using the eb desktop icon... What happened is the system searched for the rtw.exe and I think its replaced maybe? :dizzy2:

If it searches for Rome-TW.exe the link of the icon is incorrect.

Either somehow you installed .v81a2 to the wrong folder,
RTW got removed for some dubious reason.
Or someone edited the link of the icon.

Most likely is that you installed .v81a2 to the wrong folder.

I always wanted to play this wondeful mod guys but I give up, I tried.
I reinstalled (in the correct folder again) and when I tried to launch the game from the EB icon the windows started searching for the rtw.exe and launched the normal game again. I searched for an EB .exe file in the folders and couldnt find any.

You have not installed the game in the correct folder. The folder you must install into is the same folder with the RomeTW.exe which is usually called "Rome - Total War". After install this self-same folder should no contain a subfolder called EB.

Can you please take a screenshot of the folder you have installed EB into, where the EB folder is, so we can check you have go it right.

There is no EB.exe.

Hi.

I found another solution for the CTD in Carrodunum. Please look at the post https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=83661

Thanks!

I can't get the update from 0.81 -> 0.81a download link to work. It just reloads the page with the download counter updated. The 0.81a -> 0.81av2 download works. BTW I am trying to use the Zip files provided on Page 2.

I have problem with 0.81 on sallyout battle in besieged Hierosolymna(or something like that, city northwest from Petra). Seems like if I win and espetially if my general survives, it leads to CTD.
I have checked list of hotfix changes, it appears nothing like trait ctd fix is there.
Are you interested in savegame, or was it fixed since?

Please upgrade to 0.81a V2 and install the permanent fix provided in the sticky in the tech help forum. If the problem persists you should post a thread in the tech help forum. Note that 0.81 savegames are incompatible with 0.81a and 0.81a V2 though.
