Who here would be interested in a Hellas: Total War (ie. Greece Total War), involving the Greek city-states, Macedonians, Trojans (and other western Turk nations like Ephesus - well, something beginning with E anyway...) Thracians and Cretans.

Yes! It will be the greatest game in the world.

Who would you play as?

And there are no drawfs in this one, please no one get excited about that.

Me, for one. Greece has always fascinated me, I would love to see a historically accurate Hellenic M2TW mod. If you're thinking of making one, let me know, I can help with the research. :medievalcheers:

One thing, though; Greek city-states never had much variation in units. This got me in RTW, there were many units that were historically the same thing.

Regards,
Max

I would try to play as Sparta but I would lose.:shame:

Lord Cazaric

Thracians, Trojans, Macedonians and Greeks were all very different...

Sparta, though, could be different from the others by having powerful units (they were, after all, a military powerhouse), but few of them, since only 15% of their population were soldiers. And, also, they wouldn't have archers, as the Spartans thought them to be cowards and didn't recruit them.

I cannot do any thing without archers, even when I was facing peasants with my Byzantine Inf. I lost! It didn't help that the unit had -4 Valour.
:shame: :shame: :shame: :shame: :shame: :shame:

Lord Cazaric

That is just embarassing...how can you live with yourself?

Xehh II

-4 valour Byzantine Inf. will lose to +8 valour peasants.

Lord Cazaric
03-06-2007, 05:00
How the hell did you get them that bad? Did you send them marching alone against the Golden Horde or something?!

Xehh II
03-06-2007, 05:02
It was the leader, he had all the minus valour and command that i've ever seen but he was invincible vs. assassins, I tried for 10 years to kill him.

Lord Cazaric

*hits Xehh on the forehead* Idiot! Just disband the unit and train another!

That depends on when you are setting it. Sparta had a reasonable army size of Spartiatai (sp?) but it dwindled in the later years.

I would suggest having a look at the Hellenic Mods for RTW as a basis.

Good luck :)

Yes, but the helots were always their main weakness.

And the archery thing still applies.

Nonetheless, the Spartans are still the most fascinating Greeks.

Hi Lord Cazaric,
Nice idea for a modification, good luck with your idea. However, may I suggest that you contact the creators of this modification (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=61181) - they may be able to help you out with artwork, maps, history and other things that you may wish to have in your modification. Good luck with your mod, cheers!

Why does everyone think this is a idea for a mod, mods suck and nobody tells you how to install them and they're all made for RTW, which sucks aswell.
This should be the next game in the series, apart from the M2TW expansion.

You're joining the "central engine + CA developped campaigns" group, my friend?

What would you think, less idealistic though, of an extension to a TW game?
As VI is a "prologue" to MTW (unification of Great Britain), "Rise of Greece" could be a "prologue" to the RTW-period of time (just befor the Alexander expansion?), don't you think?

Hi Xehh II,

This should be the next game in the series, apart from the M2TW expansion.Mods usually do not suck, actually no modifications "suck" to the maker - they are trying to make the game more enjoable for their sort of player - for example vannila balancing mod was made for players who like longer battles and improved oppertunities to use tactics. Mods are most of the time for R:TW because it is currently the only game in the sieries which is totally moddable - sadly M2:TW currently does not have to option to make and add new models into the game, so for now, you are left with only text file mods. Hope this helps you understand, cheers!

But nobody tells me how to install them, it doesn't matter I don't have RTW anyway and my computers to good for MTW:VI.

It's weird that MTW:VI doesn't work on my computer, when STW:MI does.
STW has about the same graphics as MTW it's stupid that only STW works.

Lord Cazaric

Nah, I'm not a fan of mods. I prefer a totally different game, rather than an odd adaption. I have another idea to post in the Entrance Hall (perhaps it could be named Steppe: Total War). I'll do that when I'm on a computer that doesn't censor every second page...:wall:

Xehh, what exactly is happening when you try and run MTW? Does it not start up at all, is the game getting stuck when loading up a campaign, etc.?

(Also, have you made sure to try the solutions (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=69367) mentioned by LeftEyeNine?)

I can get to the part where I choose my faction then I click on start game, the red loading bar comes up but then it closes to desktop when its full.

Maybe you should open a thread in the Apothecary (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=15). There are alot of helpfull and capable members there, but I think most of them don't check the Entrance Hall, not to mention that this thread isn't specifically about technical issues with MTW...

Ah... not to forget them Persians. I'd like to lead Xerxes army and smash those Spartiates at Thermopylae.

A million nations of the Persian Empire fall upon you!

That definitely would be fun (but I'd rather play as the Spartans than the Persians - more valour) but that'd be more along the lines of my idea for Hellas: Total War. I thought playing as the Seleucids and Macedonians would be too far back for this one (300 or so BC), but the Persian Wars would bring it all the way back to 490 BC. A game spreading from 490 BC to 1450 AD would be unrealistic.

Still, if it was possible, that'd be brilliant. We can always dream...

The Persians never did really change. Achaemenid, Parthian, Sassanids, they were all really the same ol Persia that is, until the rise of Islam, then Persia changed a tat bit more.

Really, getting the quarrelsome greek tribes to unite under spartan hegemony and for the persians: subjugating india, egypt, the medes and babylon finalling climaxing into a showdown between eastern despostism and western 'democracy'. It'll be a nice show:2thumbsup:
