i was playing with armenia, and had an alliance with parthia, baktria, and ptolomy. i was giving them like 100 dinars every turn to keep good relations.(sometimes 500 when i could afford it.) well i got baktria to attack the selucids by giving them 10000 dinars. Now when they agreed, is it just a one turn deal, or are they going to keep attacking them because we made that deal?? also after giving them all that money for like 40 turns ptolomy attacked me and parthia and baktria betrayed me. Is it worth being diplomatic, or is the rtw system flawed when it comes to diplomacy??

No idea. As far as I can tell RTW diplomacy goes like this:

Are they sharing a border with us?
Yes
Right! Total War! No retreat! No surrender!

I give money to other factions to keep them in the game, keep the balance of power mixed so that I'm not facing one big superpower. I do not rely on them to do anything else.

My Roman empire expands to Bostra (Jordan) and Charax (Kawait), Saba owns the rest of Arabia. I give them 10,000 ever 3-5 turns. They have yet to attack me even though I am the only nation bordering them. It seems to work, though based on the amount you give them.

I give countries I'm allied too at around 3k per turn(I'll normally pick one on the other side of my enemy), until I share a border with them, then it normally falls apart. the AI admirals are really bloodthirsty too. I've had the AI offer me a ceasefire, then the next turn blockade my port, then do it all again the next turn.

Also, I don't have any trade agreements with my allies enemies, and I won't sign any kind of a ceasefire with them either.
