If I'm correct, you're playing M2TW? do you know if there are, like in RTW, anti-elephant units? (like burning pigs - you stop laughing right now, please!- in RTW). Otherwise, my best bet would be ranged mounted units.

Hi Xehh II,
The best way of wiping out elephants in R:TW was a javelin skirmisher unit such as light auxilia. Perhaps a unit such as that would help beat back those almighty elephant units in M2:TW? Good luck against the elephants, cheers!

The best unit that I found so far against elephants in MTW2 is javelin armed cavalry(Jinettes, Polish Nobles etc), javelin men work, but take high casualties and usually rout a couple of times. As you are playing Milan, I would suggest trying artillery, or try recruiting some mercenary elephants of your own.(available around the Baghdad area I think).
Muskets would probably work against them, but I have never had any when I've come up against Timurids, so you'll have to try them yourself.

I am playing M@TW as the milanese, I don't think they can get javelin guys
but I think they can get mounted crossbows.

Do those mounted crossbows fire flaming arrows? If they do then they hopefully might be able to frighten the elephants to run amok through the enemy troops henceforth killing some of them. Good luck!

You might want to try out some mounted crossbows, I use them in my Venetian custom battles against the Timurids. They aren't overly effective, though. I don't think that M2TW really has an anti-elephant unit. You should ask all M2TW-related questions in the Citadel, btw.

I'll give you a word of advise, Xehh.

Better than all of these units, the greatest way to bring down an elephant is to hit it with a group of ivory-hunters. That'll be sure to bring the desired effect!

Yes, if there was only a trainable unit of Elephant Poachers or least Mercs

I am not sure myself what would do a good job of getting rid of them but I would make a guess that a combo of fast horse archers, Gunpowder units and archers and javelin throwing troops would do well. Then, again I would need to try to javelin this myself.
