View Full Version : Keyboard madness

For some reason in the last couple of days this weird thing keeps happening when I play MTW2.
Whenever I use commands on my keyboard e.g CTRL & A, press shift or caps lock more than a couple of times, infact any of the common keys you press on the battle map or campaign map. The Medieval Shell window pops up and the sound gets muted, when this happens on the battle map the speed goes to x3 and I can't control any of my units until I hit something like F1 again and again to cancel the shell window and pause the game. By the time I regain control the battle could be well underway and my army just getting killed.
I have no idea why this is happening, it's near impossible for me to fight a battle without touching the keyboard, it's just not something i'm used to. A similar thing happens on the campaign map when I use the keyboard any of the commands you use on there to make things abit easier, the Medieval Shell pops up briefly the game reloads my most recent save, mutes the sound and brings me back to the campaign map.
It's incredibly frustrating.
Can anybody offer any insight as to why this is suddenly happening and what could be the solution to it?
Thanks.
Aetius.

How about cleaning it?:laugh4:
Sounds like your using a Laptop and the function key is stuck.

Its quite clean Erik :laugh4:
I'm not using a laptop, i've never had any trouble with this keyboard before, besides why would it only happen with MTW2?
Nothing unusual happens in anything else I do, it's truly irritating the way it happens and I have no idea why its suddenly appeared.

It sure sounds very strange if it also only happens during playing M2TW:dizzy2: If it continues and are still very frustrating (which I understands it is hehe) then replacing it with a new keyboard might be the only solution I think.
Hehe it's my own keyboard which needs a wash, it's full of hair, food and other digusting things:embarassed:

Thank you for sharing that :laugh4:
I'm unwilling to change my keyboard until I find out why it's doing this, it just doesnt make much sense, nothing changed from the day it worked perfectly to the next where it went weird :inquisitive: Typical of my luck really.

Ah I see _Aetius_, would make me ~ aswell, or worse.. ~:mad :smash:
Hope you get it sorted asap mate.
I also had the same kind of problem on the battle map. it happened twice ...
First time I thought it was my keyboard but it happened again yesterday and plugging out my keyboard didn't solve the problem.
it's like I was pressing one of the arrow keys , moving the camera over the battlefield through the border... couldn't do anything except hearing my cav being killed by spearmen :inquisitive:
The only thing I could do is change the camera to general view to finish the battle...
Very good thing in fact as I discovered this point of view that makes battles quite harder.

I literally can't play this game until I find out whats causing this, it's simply far to irritating to play knowing at any moment everything will speed right up and half my army will stand around and get slaughtered because I can't control them.
:furious3: :furious3: :furious3: :furious3: :furious3: :furious3: :furious3: :furious3:
Got to be somebody here who knows what the hell is going on :wall:

This kind of thing has happened to me before, but because I pushed the 'Pause' button to... pause... the game, duh. Sound gone, speed x3, wierd lag when trying to restore order, just because I pressed the standard key almost all games use for paused mode - 'Pause'! :furious3:
'P'?? Why 'P'?!? :wall:
Oh well... :laugh4:

Well, I'm thinking there is something weird in M2TW..
I'm getting the same thing when I'm using my function key to turn down the brightness on my laptop...

That's why i though he'd got a stuck function key on a laptop at first actually, it matches your expiriances exactly.

At the risk of sounding impossibly stupid, i've never heard of a function key, is it something laptops only have?
My keyboard is just a pretty standard wireless Microsoft one, don't really know what else I can say about it.
Yeah, it's Laptop specific. it's ushually green and changes the functions of some keys, (those with green writing on them).
Try a wired keyboard BTW, it could be signal errors thats the issue, unlikliy i know but it's worth it for nothing.

Just to take the wind out of everyone's sails for a moment.
I also am experiencing strange keyboard behavior.
Using the mouse and keyboard to move around the battle map, there is sometimes a beep from the PC and then the battle maps acts as if one of the direction keys is being permanently pressed.
Believe me it drives me nuts. I lost Acre as a Citadel this way, and my crusade then went down the toilet two turns later.
Does anyone have this problem?

As sson as I heard wierless my brain started to buzz, thats's fairlly non-standered kit for serious gamers, so it rang immiddiete bells in my head TBH. Thats why I suggested the wired keyboard to check. That and it eliminates the keyboard from the possibbile causes.

Thanks for the tip General Boreaus Brittanicus.

As far as I can tell the problem is now gone, thanks a plenty. :2thumbsup:
Have you checked to see if a cat is standing on the keyboard? Sometimes my cat will jump on the keyboard and start walking on it. When he does, my MTW game will start doing really weird things similiar to what you are describing. :laugh4:
