View Full Version : New Rebel Campaign?
I stayed Up late last night playing MTW:VI as the HRE and was doing great, I had taken Spain, France, The British Isles, North Italy, and Scandinavia by 1150. I saved, exited and returned the next day to find that my campaign has been replaced by a rebel campaign starting in the year 1087! Has this happened to anyone else? Is there anyway to recover my campaign? The quicksave works, but sets me back considerably.
Wow, how did that happen?
Did you mod anything? Or did you install a mod? I have seen this before. It usually indicates that the game can no longer read the savegame file for some reason, so you get dumped in as the rebels at 1087. It is possible that the save is simply corrupted also.

Ah...the delights of playing as the Rebels...
If the problem continues, reinstall MTW and try the save file on the fresh install.
I haven't installed any new mods, but is it possible that any modifing of the unit prod files could have a hand in this? I changed the morale and def of some islamic units after my session.

Once you've gotten past your technical problem, I'd love to hear how you accomplished so much in so little time (game time and real time). What difficulty level were you on? Congrats on a great game. I hope you are able to recover it.
Well it started with the english going on the offense in 1095 and blitzing the french in Ile de france and brittiany. Of course I sided with the English, and attacked Champagne and Flanders. The english had a reballion in Ile de france, and the next turn the english line is killed off. I attack next year and lose, but the french go into a rebellion (the french almost never do this with me, but hey, anything can happen right?). I bribe and seize everything I can before the spanish or the danes can get to it. by 1127 I hold all of france except aquitiane, and all of the British Isles except north umbria and scotland (I had to fight the danes over mercia). The danes invade saxony and freisland next year, seize friesland, but are beaten back in saxony with extremely heavy casualties. I take back freisland next year, just as the spanish invade anjou and the hungarians invade austria. The Hungarians lay seige to my austrian fort for only one year before The Italians (?!) defeat them and return my province to me. I take denmark next turn, norway goes rebel, and the spanish are pushed back from anjou by 1131 (I love Swabian Sworsdmen!). I concentrate all my forces in toulouse and mercia, bribe the norse general, and attack north umbria and aquitiane. My bribe is succesful and I move them into sweden to finish the weak garrison there along with reinforcements from denmark. I take north umbria and aquitaine, and the english reappear in scotland. Meanwhile down south, the Italians wage a fierce war against the hungarians (I have never had a more faithful ally, or a more historicly wierd one). The spanish declare a crusade against me (I'm obviosly exocommunicated at this point) but it fails after the almohads take castile, sending the spanish into civil war. I finish off the english in scotland, then rush south to meet the almohads. The Italians lose thier war in 1142 and go rebel after the loss of their hierless king, and I bribe what remains. I successfully amke it to aquitaine just as the almohads invade, and knock them senseless (Battle of tours anyone?). The hungarians shattered army makes piece with me next turn. I attack and sieze navarre and aragon next turn. The almohads luanch their counterattack in 1147, and I barely hold them back, but it's enough to start a revolt in castile and valencia. I surge foward and take castile, the spanish re-emerge in portugaul and leon, and together (though not allied) we beat the almo's back to morrocco. The spanish have a revolt in portugal, lose thier king, just as I take valencia 1149. I bribe the rebels in granada and leon, save and quit. I controlthe british Isles (except ireland), france, spain (except portugal), milan, tuscany, sweden, denmark, and norway (although the hold on norway was tenuous).

Where did you get all this money for bribes from? HRE are almost always skint, in the early years... :inquisitive:
Also, were the battles done in 'blitz mode' (auto-resolved battles) or proper 3-D battles? (I think people are wondering how you managed to cram so much action into one night's session).

The whole idea of money and the Holy Roman Empire is completely baffling to me.
I played a total of 6 hours, most of my battles were done on the battlefield, and were only autocalculated when I was sure of victory. I bribed a total of 7 armies (Norway, Venice, Anjou, Cordoba, Leon, Ile de france and North Umbria). Most of these were small armies, and consited of mostly peasants. AS to where the money came from, ask my French and Italian subjects.
Well done indeed, YourLordandConqueror! :2thumbsup:
Just to put it all into perspective in terms of your starting treasury level, what difficulty level are you playing? :inquisitive:
I do love these smilies! :laugh4:

Reverse any modifications you've done. Restore the edited files from your MTW/VI CDROM and see if you an load that save game if not then it's probably got corrupted, and you'll have to start again.
Which stats did you change exactly and were you using gnome or a text editor?
Thank you bamff, to finally answer the question, I was on normal mode only because I know their is know way the HRE can have an ally on hard or expert without getting backstabbed. I restored what you told me too, and viola! it works! I back in, with both ad and good news. I had rebellions in spain and lost cordoba and castile to muslim peasants and a catholic religious revolt respectively. I now control tuscany, and have with the popes permission, started a crusade towards hungary:laugh4: mostly because they sacked austria again and destroyed my keep :scastle: (stupid reprobates, offending and discomfiting the holy father :shame: ). In any case, thanks for the help Cambyses II! . I shall now continue my global smashing tour:smash:
