defeat rhodes if possible save

i have everything nicely blanced good income,navy and army.rome sent me to take rhodes,i sent 20 units,but am suprised by a full army as i reach there.

my general is weak and the greeks may be using rhodes as a last bastion,as my moral breaks to soon everytime.

this battle looks easy at first,but i cannot even get close to a victory.

it is only medium/medium/large.anyone to show me how its done would be great thanks.

Sorry if I cause you any-problems, yet I exterminated Rhodes, imported a few men in from Sparta, moved your naval fleets in that region around a little bit and turned the fog of war off - it also took three turns. Sorry about that. If you want to recify the fog of war matter all you have to do is press the ¬ button to activate the console and then type toggle_fow. Good luck with the rest of your campaign, cheers!

I just looked at my AdBlock + remarks and I see what you mean - plenty of advert scripts. However, I am lucky enough to not see them as I have the great Firefox with Ad-Block + installed. This is what I did with the battle of Romans Vs Greeks and the capture of Rhodes.

1) Before the battle

a) checked out mercenaries for hire. 2 skirmishers. Not hired
b) Artillery gives me option to attack town immediately
c) can also attack main Greek army outside Rhodes. This will draw out garrison.
d) Could send one unit to siege town and rest attack big Greek army...reinforcements could not then join from town.

Chose to attack town immediately. Plan is to wipe out garrison, occupy town, and deny it to Greek stack. Eliminating Greek faction by loosing its last town.

2) Battle odds.
Slider shows barely in my favour yet odds 2:1. Sometimes does that. 5:4 seems more accurate assessment of relative army values. Greeks have better Command ratings..this will be cause of Roman routs unless dealt with.

3) Deployment
Roman deply furthest away from Greek reinforcements. You can tell in advance where enemy will arrive on battlefield.

Mini map shows deployment on opposite side of town. Artillery to get me in quickly please.

4) Thank you artillery. Was careful not to stand in froont of artillery.

5) We are in and running. Equites split up. They are to capture gates of town. Infantry to take out defenders. Phalanx goes first.

6) Cavalry have north and south gate now. Ordered to run to the corners and then to the last remaining gate.

7) Ready infantry take on the defending general. Deploy many units in same space making it dense. Prevent general from pushing through. In the distance the Greek reinforcements banners can be seen outside the walls...will my cavalry get to the gate in time....

8) The defending general fights but is loosing. Meanwhile my Cavalry has sucessfully captured the last gate. Greek reinforcements cannot get in.

9) Defending 5* general goes down. Removing his morale influence from the battle.

10) I forgot. There is a gate open.

The gate I smashed down to get in is available. The Greek reinforcements move around the town to come in the same door I came through. But I have a welcome waiting. Greek missile cav arrive first. Out of ammo and tired it is routed by cavalry and routers run into town..right into waiting men.

11) I mess up. Infantry ordered to throw pila start to attack and run to another gate opening it. Greeks have another way in...and my reception committee is at the other gate.

12) Fortunatley the AI dallies. I can get troops there to block the gate. Elsewhere the Roman general takes out the second Greek general.

13) It was basically a shoot em up. Slingers and archers..indeed all troops using ammo into backs of fragmenting Greek army. Leaderless they break and rout.

I dont know how you fought them total waz. But it would not be good to go head to head with phalanx infantry with hastati. The multiple missile cavaly units would be a hazard to your cavalry. Out in the open this would be much much harder to win.

I have the save if you want it. Recommend you try it yourself..much fun.

thanks for that both,never even considered assaulting town.i had one more go after posting all our generals got killed off and i had 2 slingers v 8 or 9 phalanx and unbleivably managed to rout them all.

not very tactical but very satisfying lol.think ill try the town assualt to save my general thanks
