View Full Version : Heh... I am le chuffed.
I got my new computer yesterday, cost me a thousand pounds in English money, it's a beast of a machine, intel core 2 duo 6600 2.4ghz proccessor, ATI x1950, 2 gigs of DDR2 ram, the holy mother of all motherboards, it's awesome... And i just played EB with 10,000 men on screen with all the settings on highest, even aliasing, but shadows turned off because they look crap on the battle map anyways, and i have no lag whatsoever, it's as smooth as a babys bottom... Anyway i just wanted to say that EB is so much better now that my armies actually look like armies and not just a large-ish group of men, and the units look so much more detailed now... I notice patterns on the shields of even the crappiest of units like Greek levy phalanxes that i just didn't see before on my old machine...
So i really just wanted to brag mostly and say that EB is absolutely wonderful with a good machine to play it on... And even without a good machine, it's still great. :smash:

Sounds good Dayve, that's a nice spec for that price tag. What company did you get it from?

Just my local PC shop... They build/repair them for ya. EB loads up so fast now... I click the icon and in like 10 seconds i'm at the main menu, whereas before it took me literally 5 minutes... It loads so fast i don't even worry about CTD'a anymore. :smash:
AWESOME Dayve, congrats. I've been thinking about upgrading for a while, but I'm trying to buy a house, and I already spend enough time on my computer anyway. Playing EB lately has made me think about it though, it would be really nice to be able to have huge battles.
Anyway congrats!

Congrats I have almost the same stuff in my comp but I have a x1950xtx 512:balloon2:
Very nice. I remember when I upgraded and manually set 6X AA/16X AF in my drivers -- I was speechless with how good EB really looks.

We can but dream.....
what OS are you running on it? My main reason for not upgrading my PC is that I dont want to move on from 2000, and the new processors need a new OS to get the full benefits.
I have tweaked my current software combination into something approaching perfection... Id have to start from scratch with a new OS, and given what I have experienced of XP at work I cant see any significant advantages (especially now its being phased out for vista, which looks even worse so far).
My machine handles EB very respectably considering its now going on for 4 years old, with the only upgrade being to add a GB of RAM to bring it up to 1.5GB.

Well i've had XP for about 3 or 4 years now and i've never had any problems with it to be honest... I'm running on XP home...
As for 40,000 Romans Vs. 250,000 Gauls, at the rate that computer technology is advancing right now, i think in 2010 we will be able to see such things.
