I read this on a different topic but I figured it needed a new thread -
If you want to attack a wall, have a seige tower. If you want to run your troops quickly at an undefended section of the wall, get a ladder. It's as simple as that really, you CANNOT attack a defended wall with ladders. It wont work. You'll have to get towers.

BTW, for those of yo who haven't. get the shield fix. Seriously. It makes the game so incredibly much better.

Just wait about 9 days for patch 1.2 to come out.

Well, read further down that thread, and look at Foz's signature...

Find a post by Foz, for several stand alone fixes, including shield. Find a post by Carl for a package of fixes. Also there are several other mod's that icorporate the fixes, into what they are doing. LTC by Lusted comes imediatly to mind.

You can find the link to my package in my sig.

You can find Foz's fix in his Sig, a post of his is here: https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/member.php?u=21260

It's not anything you can see.

Shields provide extra Armour to a unit carrying them. Or rather they should, but in fact they take away from the Armour a value equal to their value. So DFK instead of having the listed 21 defense actually have 9 Defense.

It's most obvious effects are peasants being UBER, and Cav smashing apart spears like they aren't their.

SEGA managment probably, that and the fact that CA never did figure out what was wrong, (they knew somthing was up with some units but not what), it took Foz to figure out what was going on, and then he stumbld upon the initial clues by accident.

BTW, I installed Carl's problem fixer a while back and have really enjoyed it, what little I have been able to play. You will notice a difference in the battles with the performance of you troops. Not only the shields, but the 2Handed fix is big as well. The results in a fight seem much more what I expect now, even though I didn't really notice what I was missing until after I installed the mod.

Anyway, thanks to Carl, Foz, Lusted, et al. I appreciate the work you all have put in to making this game even more ejoyable. :beam:

carl, great job on your guys' mod, i just installed it

the kill rates dropped so much its like i am playing old mtw

whatever this bug is it must have made spear militia have like 0 armor, my first campaign since using the mod and the early fights are actually interesting...but i may have to play on vh as opposed to hard now as this new kill rate gives the ai more time to screw up

2 handers work perfectly now, the axemen look a little odd, and leads one to question who is training these men :beam: but its a small price to pay

great job, who needs the patch :holiday2:

You're quite welcome rrdew, and everyone else for that matter. I have to fix this stuff for myself anyway, so I guess I just figure I might as well do everyone else a favor and post it for them too

As for the 2-handers, yeah that's a big one too. I was so happy recently when the enemy general's bodyguard (among other units) tried to plug a hole in the wall that my armored swordsmen were marching into... because my fixed dismounted english knights were headed for a second breach that the cavalry had just vacated to go after the earlier-arriving swordsmen. The dismounted english knights took off at a run, and slammed into the general's bodyguard from the rear. Talk about butcher's work. I don't think I've ever seen a general's bodyguard get hacked to pieces as quickly as that. It was awesome! :whip:

I did mine for much the same reason. I had a working set of fixes for myself and lots of people where asking for combined Pike/Shield/2-hander fixes so i released it.

Yes, I was able to rush a unit of billmen up to protect some archers from enemy cav, and they actually routed the cav. In another battle I was caught offgaurd by an invasion of the GBG units, and I only hade militia units near by. I was actually able to hold with my spears and flank with bills, to win the battle. I took loses, but still came out with a victory. I don't think I could have won this in vanilla.

which unfortunately leads to a new problem of game difficulty, i'm leary of VH as it causes you to roll your eyes alot at what the ai units can do, its often like fighting an army of supermen, which isnt the challenge i signed up for

but with that said, id much rather play with these fixes than without
