Have spent over 10 hours now across two nights doing my absolute bloody best to play the game. First time, it worked. Played a custom battle as Greeks and started a campaign as them. However after 30 seconds of the campaign upon clicking on my first city it crashed. Havent been past the Europa Barbarorum opening screen since. It just crashes (not to desktop) and stays there totally frozen. I alt+ctrl+delete and it tells me its not responding. Have installed and uninstalled twice. I give up now doing things under my own steam, help. Please.

What version of the mod are you playing and what sort of computer do you have? If it's somewhat ancient, that might be the problem as EB needs a little better system than the minimum RTW requirements suggest to run well. If you've never been able to get one turn on a campaign done, then it might be a bad download (the installer or patch) or maybe the build wasn't a totally clean 1.5 one in the first place. Did you delete map.rwm also after you installed EB? The one inside the EB subdirectory? That might cause problems, but I wouldn't think it would cause this particular one.

Not on the full 0.81a you shouldn't (I don't think). Was your RTW build a 1.5 one? Without anything else on it or modded?

yea completely fresh uninstall and wiped clean before being put back on and patched to 1.5

I'm not sure what to advise then. I can't swear by my life that the full 0.81a build is perfectly fine, because I took a clean 1.5 build and put a full 0.81 build on it, then installed the "a" hotfix on after it - a little different than what you are doing. But it really does seem like it is a bad install or download. Let's see what anyone else says or advises.

well big suprise it didnt work...
Do you get the same problems when starting vanilla from that installation (IE not with the -mod:eb switch)? What sort of computer do you have (processor, graphics, memory)? Have you successfully played other major mods like RTR recently? Have you successfully played some graphics intensive game recently?
Freezing up is not a common error, but you're not the only one reporting it. I would ask you to use Filemon to see what's happening, but it won't be of any use as you won't be able to save the log when the computer freezes... As I have had none of these problems myself, I can only guess at fixes.

Yep RTR worked. Graphics work fine. Computer isnt that bad. I got it to work but now the whole game is painfully slow, still need some advice on making it playable.

Could you post your RAM, CPU, and Graphics card specs? Because "clicking on a city for the first time and then it's stuck" sounds like a sort of RAM problem. If it's not, CPU is the most likely culprit, and if that's not it either then your Graphics card may give the CPU & RAM some trouble. (Because it's not being capable of it's job, and therefore your PC has to rely on CPU & RAM helping out.)

RAM 512MB DDR
Graphics card is GeForce 6200 (or something, dont have box handy)
Intel 4 etc after that.
40GB
Planning to just delete the game for now want to buy a new pc soon will whack it on then.
You are likely to benefit the most from purchasing more memory. Only 512 MB means you will have to swap a lot of memory to disk, and the game will be extremely slow. I think that must be the cause of your problems. But it's strange that you should crash on the opening screen, not all that much is loaded by then.
You could also try to run memtest to check whether your memory is error free. Leave it running during the night. If there are no errors detected in the morning your RAM is okay, but still lacking in size to get decent performance.

Yep. Bovi's absolutely right there: even with my 1024 MB of RAM, I experience a slight bit of lag when activating the script.
