Hi EB fans, after installation of the latest version(0.81a) i noticed that Eleutheroi are available as playable faction. I tried to start a campaign but i could not get out of any city.I cancelled that campaign but during my Romani campaign i met Eleutheroi diplomat. That has never happened to me before!!:dizzy2: Is it ok that Eleutheroi are kind of "semi-playable"? Were they semi-playable before and i just did not noticed?

Something has gone awry. The game only allows the first 20 factions in the list at the start of descr_strat to be selectable for a campaign game, the Eleutheroi is 21.

Rebels as a faction is a definit mis-hap. And a rebel diplomat, I dont think that can hurt you...

And FOOT How do you get those civ fan things (you know the one you have, fan of Hayasdan?) sry not thread jacking!

Fan!? You'd better believe it.

You can get the non-member sigs here (https://www.europabarbarorum.com/downloads_artwork.html). If you want the new ones you have to become a member, or wait until Teleklos releases new non-member ones.

EDIT: Sorry, thats better. I updated the link.

I remember being able to play as the elutheroi back in 0.74, I tryed one turn or two and it worked fine. Pretty cool having 3 quarters of the world under your control.

i think you should make it playable so the AI can ally certain tribes with you, or hold a protectorate over them
like real history

There are a large number of reasons why we cannot make the Eleutheroi playable, here are just a few.

1) Only 20 factions can be chosen at the campaign selection screen: the Eleutheroi are number 21

2) RTW's slave faction slot is not a real faction has some certain hardcoded stuff that stops it from being so.

3) We have given all generals who start off in cities a trait that means they cannot move, this is so the Eleutheroi don't move all their troops out their starting cities.

4) We cannot give them diplomacy because doing so means you can ally with them, which is absurd because you would be allying with a trans-map group who are ahistorical in the first place.

Why would anyone want to play them anyway, the beginning game (when you are small and weak) is the most interesting part. The Eleutheroi are never weak.

Such as: you can't save your campaign. Only Autosave, and perhaps Quicksave.

After a couple of turns you are weak, very weak, extremely very weak... and you'll remain so till you're done in. Why? Well... money. After all you have more army than you could ever be able to pay up for, and don't get any scripted bonuses. And the AI's getting more powerful all the way along your campaign. And you can't really do anything about it.

Now the last bit means that after a while it's just about losing it all, and though that may present you with some real fun challanges, it get's repetitive and disappointing in the long run. :2cents:

I knew that probably something wrong happened during the installation but if everything works fine i will not reinstall and instead i will try Eleutheroi just for fun:2thumbsup: I remember having 150 000 cash at the begining, thats cool :beam:
I will simply make life harder for "real" factions:yes:

Has anyone thought that by being a rebel faction, you get more cities under your control when they rebel!

That's awesome, I never knew Eleutheroi were playable! And they can never be destroyed, either, because the Sahara is unconquerable.

They are the ultimate faction. If you can play them all the better.

And no they werent supposed to be playable.

I've been playing as them, and by 5 years, sweboz, rome, carthage, saba, arverni, aedui, casse, ptolemaioi, sauromatae, getai have all been destroyed by me, lusotannan is about to die!

Too bad I'm 3 million mnai in debt, and i have only 3 full stacks left. MY EMPIRE WILL CRUMBLE! I'll only be able to get reinforcements through rebels popping up.

Then your rebels will rebel! There is no way your empire can be destroyed, only put under new management of new rebels, which are technicly (sp?) still yours.

Well, I mean it will crumble as in the factions left over will take it over. Oh and yes I have a total of 4 stacks left out of all the units for eleutheroi.
