Hello

I'm writing a newspaper article these days, and I need to know how much money is spent on counter-terrorism. I know approximately, but I'd like some exact figures to put in...

Specifically, what I'm looking for is how much is spent on counter-terrorism, EXCLUDING the war in iraq and afghanistan. I'm just looking for nationspecific costs. I'm quite sure the US brags about it somewhere, and I doubt the EU is any worse. But I have not been able to find it...

If anyone knows it, or knows where I could look, I'd be very grateful!

Counter-terrorism covers a wide range of disciplines and agencies. Defining specific activities is remarkably difficult, but you need to think about these activities for your article.

Almost all of those agencies will have their budgets in this area classified. Quite the contrary to bragging about it, the exact figures will be secret or allocated under other headings such as policing - or fact finding missions to Uzbek prisons.

Hmmm... There isn't a budget post in the US budget called "counter-terrorism" or something? It would make things sooo much easier:laugh4: I know it probably won't be the exact amount, but I'll have to do with what's official...

In Britain, counter-espionage has been carried out by the security service M15 for nearly 100 years. The service now focuses mainly on counter-terrorism and only about 5% of its budget is now spent on counter-espionage. The service oversees every visa application from a potential intelligence officer coming to Britain — and tries to keep out the more experienced ones.

I got this from a few minutes of searching. I would guess that reading national budgets and budgets for different agencies would be your best shot.

Thanks, Del.

Just to point out, I'm not being lazy...well, not very lazy, anyway. I'm well on my way compiling different reports and such into one, however, this takes a while, and may not be accurate at all... Which is why I posted here, hoping that someone here had an article, site or something that has the total number, as accurate as possible...

I'm guessing a human rights group could make something like that....Unfortunately, the ones I know of has not.
