Hello all.
I keep hearing about MTW campaigns being played in XL which I'm assuming is a mod with a bunch more factions. I couldn't find a mod subforum for it though. Could someone explain to me exactly what's in there and how exactly do I get it (as I'm a complete computer noob  )
Many thanks.
edit: I've heard of a bigger/better VI mod. Anyone know anything about that?

Ok I found the download for it here:
http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?goto=lastpost&t=2988 And it's ready to download. the file is called VH_MTW_XL2_Full.exe
My questions is: 1) Is the file I should be downloading and are there any others? 2) How will it affect regular MTW? 3) Is there anything I should know before continuing with the download? (will it erase everything from my last game or something?, etc.)
Thanks for any help.

There is also a patch, and it is recommended as it fixes quite a few things. It should be hosted together with the mod.
Before installing the mod, you may want to back up your save games folder, in case you want to go back to the vanilla game and continue some of your campaigns.
Other than that, just double click on the downloaded files, follow the instructions and enjoy. :2thumbsup:

Ok I downloaded and I think I installed it. But when I finished only the installation icon with this name "VH_MTW_XL2_Full" came up. the icon is of what appears to be a disc drive with an orange arrow pointing down on it FYI.
I can't find out how to play though, someone please help me.
No, so far you just downloaded it. The icon with the disc is the installer file, you need to execute it :hanged:
Now, the installer (which looks like what you should be used to from any other installation program) will ask you where your MTW directory is located, point it there and it´ll do the rest automatically, which is basically copying the contents of the mod into the MTW folder.
To play you just have to start MTW the usual way.

Err and where exactly do I find that?
Sorry for all the questions:embarassed:
What I tried was that I found the name Total War whose icon was a yallow folder, I went into it, and clicked Medieval - Total War
And then went to "next" to start the installation.
I tried the game and nothing changed. Same old game.:help:

The standard path for MTW is
c:\program files\activision\
and from there on I don't know anymore. If nothing has changed in your game you've probably installed XL in your start menu folder....
to find out your mtw directory, right-click its desktop shortcut and choose 'properties'. the following window will tell you where the .exe file to which the short-cut refers is located, and THIS is your mtw folder.
delete the files where you first 'installed' XL in order to free up some disk space, then run the installer again and point it to your real mtw:vi dir. afterwards, run the XL patch and repeat....
good luck & enjoy! :turtle: ~

Just to make sure, do I want to put it into
Target: "C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Medieval - Total War - Gold Edition\Medieval_TW.exe"
or Start In: "C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Medieval - Total War - Gold Edition"
?

I am happy to say that I got this working. All seems to be well so far.
Now I'll try the patch. What exactly does the patch do and is it reccomended for use?
The patch fixes a few bugs, as well as adding numerous tweaks (unit rebalancing, trade income slightly readjusted upwards, etc.). You should definitely install that as well on top of the mod.

Ok, thanks I'll download it when I have some time.
And I thought I read somewhere that this mod had Burgundy too. But as far as I can tell, it doesen't.
I believe Burgundy is available in the Late period only. (Never played them myself, though, so I'm not the best guy to ask.)
It´s definitely there in the Late period, being a thorn in my (HRE) side. I don´t think it´s there in the earlier periods, though, considering that Burgund became an independent entity only in, what was it, 1370s, actually, wasn´t it? Didn´t last too long, either...
Nevertheless, if you want all of XLs bells and whistles, make sure you play the campaigns labeled XL, otherwise you just get the regular vanilla campaign (with a few more provinces, though), units and factions.

This is weird.
I have Viking era, early, early XL, and high period.
ONly early is XL and high period does not offer the burgundians.
And I'm sure I downloaded the Full version.
You have to own MTW VI 2.01, MTW disc and the Viking Invasion disc. Just run the XL mod and the XL patch. Installation is automatic, you should get High XL and Late XL as well.

The only disc I have is the Total War Eras package one. It has both VI and MTW on it.

Then I suppose it will be OK.

I recently installed XL with no problems. However, you do have to scroll down the variants in the period choice to see all of them - the list you mentioned is what you see without scrolling.
