View Full Version : I am lost in deep, deep jungle...
well, when it comes to MTW online anyway. I have been playing the game since it came out, I beat it on expert with The Turks, English, Egyptians, Byzantines, Italians and The Danes. But I want to get into modding.
I have searched this site for a while, but I still can't find what I am looking for. I am looking for a really good MTW mod, I don't have VI, I just have the vanilla MTW straight out of the box, not even patched.
Also, is there a way I could, for example, train Billmen while playing as the Turks, I have seen the cheats, but I am looking for any guides that could show me how to break the limitations on units. Again, I have been playing for a long, long time but I need something new to spice up the game.

XL and BKB are the mods you want, though I cant remember if they are only for VI, its been so long since I installed them. Patch the game up because of that damned 56 bug.
You can hire mercenaries, you can billmen as any faction if there are any available mercenary units of them at the inn.

There is a medmod version for the vanilla MTW, which does not require Viking Invasion. For more info, check the thread called MedMod in the Engineers' Guild.
The medmod is great IMO, it has some stuff that other mods dont offer
All the units for each faction are unique, no two factions have the same unit
You can only recruit your units in your homeland (makes the game more challenging).
The english and french can have a real interesting war because there are lots more provinces in france, and also the french cavalry are much better than the english, but the english have archers while the french have crossbows, and the english infantry are better. I really like this part because I love playing england or france.

You need VI to run XL. I've never played Medmod, but I can tell you that XL is awesome. VI itself has plenty of features that make it worth buying, but the ability to play XL doubles its value.
First off, welcome to the Org Muzzy. ~
As Kavhan Isbul said, the only major mod compatible with vanilla MTW is a version of Wes' MedMod, which you can find here (http://wes.apolyton.net/).
All other mods require Viking Invasion -- which I highly recommend you pick up in any case.
thanks for the warm welcome, guys.
I was still wondering though, there is no way I could train, again, for example, egyptian-only units while playing as the Turks?
Even a file I could maybe look through on the computer which I could play around with and see if I can break the barrier? thanks a ton guys...

Hi Muzzy, I know it's possible by modifying some files, but not being a specialist, I couldn't tell you how and where. :shame:

This one would be quite simple if you get Gnome editor.
Open up the CRUSADER_UNIT_PROD file with Gnome, look for the unit you wish to give to the Turks, say Nubian spearmen, scroll right until you find the "FACTION ASSOCIATION" column (cloumn 43, IIRC, or 50- odd....) and where it says FN_EGYPTIAN, change this to "FN_EGYPTIAN, FN_TURKISH" - the ""s are important if you have more than one faction in the list. Then save as the original file name. Reload the game and Nubian spearmen will be available to the Turks (although there may be province limits - basically the Turks will be able to train them anywhere the Egyptians can).
If you make a mistake, the Gnome install includes a copy of the default file, so you can reload it and start again, but even so make back up copies first...
It would be more complicated to say let the Turks train Feudal Men at Arms, as you will also have to change the unit's CULTURE association which is in a different column in the UNIT_PROD file. FMAAs will be associated with CATHOLIC culture and even if you add FN_TURKISH to the faction association, it will not work - you must change the culture to allow MUSLIM as well.
You might also need to copy some other .bif files from CAMPMAP/REVIEWPANEL/UNITS/CHRISTIAN into .../UNITS/MUSLIM, and the same in CAMPMAP/INFOPICS.
Anyway, you can practice on the Egyptians for now :2thumbsup:

I'll answer in his place...hope you don't mind, Martok
There are two versions of MedMod: v4.07 which is for VI 2.01 (I DEFINITELY recommend this version) or v2.x which works with vanilla MTW (patched, I suppose). Check out his site (http://wes.apolyton.net/) for frther information.

Not at all, mate.
Just to clarify, Voivode: If you install v2.x of MedMod for vanilla MTW, then yes, you will need the 1.1 patch as well.

As I look on http://wes.apolyton.net/ I can't seem to find v2.x
By the way, would you happen to know where to get the 1.1 patch?

Ah, my apologies. The version you want is Medieval mod IV v1.85 for Total War v1.1. It's towards the bottome of Wes' page.
By the way, would you happen to know where to get the 1.1 patch?
You can find it here (http://www.3ddownloads.com/totalwar/MTW/patches/MTW_v1.1_US_Euro_RELEASE.zip). Enjoy!
