Hello everyone,
I found this forum while desperately looking for a solution to the problem I am having with Rome Total War. I just bought the game a few days ago. It installed fine and runs fine up until I try to play a map on a campaign. Then it starts to run extremely slow and the mouse moves very choppily to the extent that it is impossible to play. I have tried everything I can think of to solve the problem, but nothing seems to work. Can anyone help me?

I have an Nvidia GeForce MX 4000 128mb graphics card
an Emachines model T3512
512 mb ram
100 GB hard drive
Windows XP
16x speed cd/dvd rom/dvd burner drive

Any help would be most appreciated.

Hi Mrs_CatholicPortugalian and welcome,
May I suggest that you turn down your graphic settings. You can do this going into options in the main menu, then into video options and clicking on the advanced button. Simply drag the unit and vegetation sliders further left and turn off shadows and other such features in the check-boxes below the sliders. Then you can scale down the unit size to something that your card would find easier to read. I always use the "normal" setting for my card, which is a 64MB GeForce 4 MX 420, and I only have small lag problems in large battles. Your higher spec card, being much better than my old piece of scrap metal, may be able to cope with the large setting, however, if you still experience the lag, then turning it down would probably be the most viable option. All you have to do then is start a new game and all the settings will come into effect. Sorry, but the unit size only changes with the start of a new campaign. My apologies. Hope this resolves your lag, cheers!

Thank you very much for the suggestion. I did try to lower the graphics settings before, but I did not uncheck shadow boxes. Perhaps that will help. I will let you know. Thank you again.

Welcome Mrs Catholic Portugalian ~

If Omanes' suggestion won't help, you might want to open a thread in the Apothecary which is here (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=15). We have some really good people there who'll probably know a solution for your problem.

Good luck
