I am currently playing through a campaign as Gaul, which is going pretty ok, but I have just noticed something strange. When I end the turn I see the AI movement and observe the AI pieces moving around the map, then I notice a "Spanish" spy that appears and seems to infiltrate my settlement, Numantia (I've seen this occur with other settlements also). Now this is nothing unusual but what does seem strange is that I don't get any information parchment about this. Usually I'm informed that the "foreigner" is around my city and escaped, or was killed etc etc, but in this campaign nothing. The agent appears I can see him but nothing else occurs. So I've no idea if he was caught, slipped through or whatever. Any ideas?

:help:

Hi Caravel,
I'm, sorry that I'm not completly sure, yet I don't think you get any notifications if an enemy, allied or neutral spy infiltrates your settlements - I think you almost always see them get in, but you only get the message if they are found out and escape or get executed by your noble men inside the city. Hope this helps, cheers!

Thanks for the replay Omanes

In the campaign I had been playing before the "agent found" messages were appearing regularly, and in this campaign I haven't seen even one yet, despite having some decent spies in all of my settlements keeping an eye on things. So far the enemy spies have arrived in Numantia about six times. They could all be in the city though public order is not that low. There is also a Germanic spy just standing there slightly south of Lugdunum. He has been in and out of there once and no notification has appeared. Am I missing something?

Hi again Caravel,
I don't think you could be missing anything, yet, perhaps the problem could be that the spies are actually leaving your settlement's of their own accord, through the AI's orders, rather than being forced out by your own spies and soilders?

So what you're saying is that in this campaign my spies are simply a crowd of useless lazy boozed up fools, and the rival faction spies are simply walking in and out of my cities at will and totally unchallenged? :inquisitive:

Well, the ruler of the Gauls can be bad finding enemies. :beam:

/grabs the coat

Well, check if you got troops and fmaily members in those settlements

Well the spy was in and out a few more times, and has finally been caught, which showed the "agent detected" message. After that I'm seeing a lot more "agent detected" messages elsewhere. Strange.

I've just had a nice CTD as well. Basically I'd mobilised a large force (not really large enough) and attacked the Senate. There were armies of the Scipii and Brutii nearby also, but they didn't assist the Senate at all. Anyway, I won the second battle, the first I lost but it cost them dearly, and had them under siege. The next turn they sally forth and attack assisted by another army they have in the field. The result was their total defeat. So the battle ends and I return to campaign map and am given the usual options. I choose to exterminate the populace, because I'm feeling particularly vengeful. The romans have been giving me hell for years, the Julii I have already wiped out, the Scipii and Brutii I have weakened badly. The former are restricted to Sardinia and Sicily only and the latter are in the two provinces to the south and (I think in) have a province or two in the east. Anyway there I was breathing a sigh of relief, thinking no more senate, clicking "exterminate the populace" and... BOOM... gone!!?? Desktop... No sign of my glorious troops occupying Rome, but only the .org open in my browser. So disgusted was I that started the game up again, loaded an autosave and autoalced the battles, which I still won, but with much heavier losses! About three "epic" battles for nothing. Anyone seen this type of CTD before?

Yep, it's a common and regular nasty bug. It seems to randomly occur with no apparent conditions on the capture of Rome and the destruction of the Senate faction. I have received it five times in the past after capturing Rome and wiping out the senate. However, other than what I have specified I am sorry to say that I have no idea what causes it. Sorry.

Many thanks Omanes! I suppose I'll have to live with it. Annoying as it is.

Hi

I think you only see spies 'entering' your city when they have been detected. You dont see spies enter your cities otherwise.

RTW has a bug that means various information messages are not reported. No pattern that I can detect. Perhaps the spy detected/caught message was lost due to the bug and so all you see in the spy seeming to enter the city?

Severous, thanks for the reply. What you're saying seems to make sense, as I'm now seeing all of the info for spies again all of a sudden.

Also I have noticed another bug (probably old news to the rest of you here) where info parchments don't display. When i double click units or try to bring up the info parchmen for a city or the building or training queue nothing happens. clicking on one of the previously viewed alert buttons down the left hand side seems to reset this and parchments are viewable and working normally again.

Hmmm... the only thing available to build in Rome at the moment is the "Temple of Horse Awesome Temple", and the description says I shouldn't be seeing it (developers info). I've read about this elsewhere, though I can't remember how to get around it. Do I build it, does it disappear, do I need to demolish anything?

Hi Caravel,
It's just an empty error message, not really a bug. It's just the computer telling you that the programmers of R:TW made a little mistake in assigning temples to factions and gave the wrong temple to the wrong faction. Nothing to worry about. Hope this helps you, cheers!

A bug then. ~;)

Do I build it or ignore it though? Thank you for all your assistance. What I mean is does it cause a crash? Is it necessary to build?

I also get the CTD on exterminate populace. But I get it when taking any settlement from any faction. To make things worse, it seems to happen alot after *epic* battles. I have taken to saving the game before I choose the fate of the people in the settlement. (You can press esc when that screen comes up to save your game). This way, you don't have to re-fight your battle at least.

Yes, I will save religiously after conquering a city from now on.

I'll ignore it then, thanks again.
