My current one is starting to get tedious, so I'll probably be starting a new one soon. Which do you guys think I should do next? Since my last was with the Saka, I don't want to be any of the far eastern, other steppe nomads, or the seleucids now, which is why they are off the list. I merged the Averni and Aedui to just the Averni, since they are almost the same faction but I like the Averni's skins more, so I'd pick them over the Aedui.

Well, I guess Epeiros is a promising and challenging faction. I myself want to try it in my next campaign. It is between hammer and anvil (I mean Rome and Makedonia) from the very beginning...:sweatdrop:

In my experience blitzing the Maks out of Hellas inside two years is more than easy with Epeiros. I didn't even need the hefalumps for it; a spy opened the gates and, well, let's just say that a bunch of Sphendonetai don't guard them too long against Pyrrhos' Molosson Agema...

You kind of left out Saka-Rauka, Pahlava, Hayasdan and the Sauromate :inquisitive:

I vote Qarthadast. Gotta be about as polar opposite of the Saka as there is - strong economy, lots of territory to begin with, mounted skirmishers pretty much start and end with the Numidians and their javelins, and navy and heavy infantry are the order of the day.

Kh is fun, old school Hoplitai is actually quite powerful, still. You might want to try Rome.. but I got terribly bored at the inertness of that side of the Mediterranian. Its a hit/miss depending on how much the AI feels like doing SOMETHING!!!

pontos and to a lesser extent casse if you want a difficult start. Pontos you have to fight tooth and nail to survive at start. Casse you just sit on your butt for as long as it takes to get a cheap and large enough army together to conquer your neighbors without a break. But it feels hard!

Carthage/Getai if you want ez mode with some fun units. Any of the 3 hellens around greece also as neither of the ai's can really do anything to you that early on.

I voted Getai..After i'm done with my current Mak campaign that's who i'm going to use next..Seems to me like that would be a very fun campaign...

Koinon Hellenon, Hardest campaign I have ever played, if u attack corinthos straight off, instead of the usual, full macedonian stack near athens going northwards, it will come and attack your cities (in my experience). Macedonia is putting one of the biggest fights ive ever had, Ive been having to fight tooth and nail to not lose athens. on vh/m (campaign diff/Battle)

I've had a blast in my Aedui and Macedonia campaigns. Plenty of action in the beginning, and in both enemies come at you from both sides(Rome and the Arverni for the Aedui, and Epeiros and KH for the Maks).

Which military do you like the most? That's probably the most important question.

Also, I don't know if this is an issue for you but in my Macedonian campaign I'm getting sick of fighting against the Seleucids so I will probably emphasize picking a faction in my next campaign that won't have a war with them anytime soon. For me choosing a faction is just whether I like their military style and their start position and that my last major campaign wasn't too similar to them (to explain what I mean easier, here's my projected campaigns Casse->Armenian->Macedonian; current->Roman->Bactrian).

Given your campaigns of Carthage and Saka from the a.i progression thread, I would suggest a Roman or Averni or Sweboz campaign next, because you won't have to slug against Seleucia again and won't have to bother with the steppes either, as you would with the Getai, Ptolemies, or the Greeks. Of course the Casse is an option for a completely different (and very boring for a long time) approach too.

Try Ptolmies, they're like the least played faction, at least I've never seen anybody really mentioning them... even though I just started one as them. :beam:

It gladdens my anti-roman eyes to see no votes for the SPQR. ~:)

I personally think the Sweboz is the best campaign choice you can make. I mean, the units... so wonderful, so beutiful, yet deadly... frameas, two handed axes, crazy half-naked clubmen... the only other factions that can compete with that are the Aedui and Arverni with their crazy naked Gaesatae, but I have a preference for said framea. It gives me sexual pleasure. Yeah.

I guess the Casse aren't that bad a choice either... at least if the Kluddobro looks the same as they did pre-0.8. Like the framea, they have a truly erotic hold on me. Ok, to be perfectly honest, I guess it's really the unit's style that has caught me... short sword, small shield, bare breast and pants as the only "body armour". I like their Galatian counterparts just as much. Which opens up for the Getai... eh, screw it, all "barbarian" factions are awesome, but I still prefer the Sweboz, and that's what I voted for.

Pontos. I like the underdog factions. More of a challenge playing them against the big boys on the block.

Thougt you missed some factions because the board would not let you put more choices (sorry my bad for no reading carefully)...hehe anyway thats what Im gonna play next. sorry :clown:

I'd say go for Sweboz I think their place in the map is quite interesting. you will be facing multiple enemies soon enough when you start expanding.

I'd say Pontos, if only because you'll be in a lot of trouble very quickly and for a very long time. Even if you establish a solid base, you are against an invisible timer that can go off without warning....can you become strong enough to go toe to toe with the Seleukids(or the Ptolies, if they steamroll hard enough)? I say the timer is invisible because you cannot truly see it or know when it will expire. I do have an excellent opening, but I think I am simply too slow in executing the next part and thus end up fighting a slow but undeniably losing battle as the Seleukids slowly grind my strength away, and drain me of the power to resist them. So I'm interested in seeing how a different player can approach and deal with the challenges presented by Pontos and their uniquely precarious and dangerous situation...

Rome! Not only being the namesake of the game which is modded but also infinitely cooler with all the work the EB team has done. Though I doubt I'll ever manage a Triumphus since I tend to try and avoid situations where I do not already have the advantage.

Getting Triumphuses are a little easier when you're playing with 10 unit legions :-p.

Well I would have suggested the Seleukids comsidering that's what my next faction will be, but if you really don't want to play them then... Rome:rtwyes: or Egypt:egypt: . The Ptolemies are rich, have the greatest city in the game when it starts, posess the body of Alexandros, have quick access to elephants if they choose to move South, and have the great honour of being the only faction the Seleukids fear (at least at the start).

Rome is simply the best faction in the game. Period.

if i was you go for the one with the lowest votes because people dont play it because it's hardest, thats the one you'll get most fun out of.

CaesarAugustus

Not necessarily, I thnik that Lusotana and Sabyn have the lowest votes right now because they're partially incomplete.

When I have a working gaming PC again, I first want to finish my Epeiros campaign (considering their victory objectives, this should keep me busy...)

After that, Ptolemaioi or maybe Pahlava. There's a soft voice in the back of my head that keeps telling me that I should finally give the Romani a try, though.

At the end of today, I'll pick a faction from whoever has the most votes. *but that might mean I have to play as the romans, gasp!!!! That would be my first roman campaign since my first ever as the Brutii*

Hopefully this will help force the decision. Romani are well worth it. I was avoiding them, since vanilla, but decided to take the plunge with 0.8, as cunctators minimod seemed to offer all the incentives I needed (ironically I got so far through my campaign before I realised it had installed in the wrong directory that I have ended up playing without it:oops: )
They are very fun, though I opted to bring forward the Marian reforms to 200BC, as my game would have stalled otherwise.

Have yet to finish my first long EB campaign (because everytime I get almost there... EB has something new for me so I just start all over again.) Anyway, Casse would be my next try. For one thing you're pretty isolated and have to see to the Eleutheroi first. Saba would be a good one too, I think. Just for the fun of watching other factions see how they do, and trying to play it a not the Total War style.

Go the faction that you are least historically familiar with.

You might just learn something, and isn't that the overall point in the end?

Well i know you say you dont like easterners, try baktria thats a challenge to fend off from pahlava and arche seleukeia with only archers, skirmishers and pantadopoi phalangitai, all this managing and watching your economics closely so you dont go into red numbers, also late in the game the unit selection of the baktria empire is nice!i mean elephantes indikoi, baktria agema, etc its nice without forgeting some nice mounted steppe archers as auxiliary units!try it its been the best campaign ive already had!also try ptolemaioi maybe theyre rich and have a lot of land, but only a few cities can really produce a decent army, and well you have to fend off from the arche seleukia and well it depends on hoy many turns it takes for them to betray you but also from karthadastim, good luck on your next selection, the barbarian factions are just excellent, great unit rosters but like someone said before its fun as long as the other factions around you plan doing something!so good luck choosing your next campaing man!!!

I never said I didn't like the eastern factions. Baktria and the Saka are two of my top 5 favorite factions. But I had just played a 70 year long Saka campain, taking everything up to Mazaka in Asia Minor, and didn't feel like doing that again. After over 500 victories vs the Seleucids you get a little tired of killing them. Exspecially when they just keep sending wave after wave of full stacks at you.

I really enjoyed my Aedui campaign, although waiting for the first reform was hard, and when I got it it was mostly regional troops in my territories farthest from the front! :laugh4: On the other hand, those Carnutes were awesome. If I did it again I'd play the Casse, and sit on my island until at least the first reform, hoping to hit the second before the game's end.

Wolfman25, I think it's too late, he decided to play the faction that got the most votes, and the Romans are far ahead of our beloved Celts. Ah well, they're fun too.
