View Full Version : CTD with saved games

Probably this question was already asked in this forum, but I'm unable to find the answer.:embarassed:
I have systematic CTD when trying to continue a saved game.
I save one campaign in an early turn (about 2-3), and I'm able to continue until at least 20-25 turns without problems. However, if I reload the saved campaign, it CTD in the rebels turn when I press the turn end button.
Any idea of the reason for this kind of CTD? :help:

Ok, I see that nobody has the answer. :shame:
Just to add a little bit of confusion: this kind of CTD is depending on the faction. For example the gauls produce this but not dacia, and both belong to the same culture. :dizzy2:

It might be caused by cities revolting. It's been known that if a city revolts and there is no unit to recruit from the building list so the slave faction would take units from the mercenary pool and could cause CTD. Message Dol Guldur for more info since he had more research in this.

Finally I have the solution (I think so) but not the reason.
In a set of experiments, I was really puzzled.
Factions with saved game issues: dacia (padane gauls), romans_scipii (italic peoples) and carthage (idem).
Factions without saved game issues: gauls (idem), romans_julii (romans) and greek_cities (greek colonies).
In the campaign I had the senate as superfaction of only romans_julii, but I got messages of proscription of both julii and scipii, and also the messages were messed up, as the message appeared for julii when the scipii were proscripted.
Moreover, although the senate was not superfaction of romans_scipii, when playing with them I received missions and rewards. That means (I think so) that in the case of one faction is included in the superfaction system, all the roman factions present in the campaign are automathically included in the system.
In view of that, I eliminated all traces of superfaction system, and now romans and gauls don't produce saved game issues. I didn't have time to test all the other factions, but it seems this question was the origin of the problem.

I'm not sure if the rebels work in that way.
I've played as the rebels some times to be sure there were no problems, and they are able to recruit all the units labelled with "owner slave" in export_descr_units, even in case they are not marked as { slave, } in the recruitment line of export_descr_buildings.
In fact, the old barracks are kept in game only for rebels, but they build the barracks of the corresponding culture of the region. I mean, the gallic rebels build gallic barracks, and the numidian rebels build african barracks, although the buildings cannot be built by the slave faction.
I had several CTD issues due to rebels, but they were originated by mismatch between the default faction in descr_regions and the culture of the rebels assigned to that region in descr_rebel_factions, and/or the sub_faction assigned to that region in descr_strat.
Cheers. :2thumbsup:

sounds like you may have found the cause but thought i'd mention it looks like the factions without problems are the same factions as they were in vanilla while the ones with problems have changed. possibly related to errors in one or more of the text entries for each faction. the "you are ambushed by an army of x" type entries in...umm... forgotten where, expanded.txt or something.
edit: just realised carthage is the same faction as vanilla and is in the "has problems" list.
